Programming / Re: OS/4 kernel and extended KEE
« on: June 15, 2013, 12:13:23 am »
Since I last posted I have been using the OS4 kernel (retail) with no trouble. Maybe the freeze I got then was from something else (Flash??). I did have a POPUPLOG from DMISL.EXE which is something I've never had before...

I have one question: Is os2krnl.ini necessary? I ask because I don't see anything in ___hlp$ that would make me think I need to add anything to os2krnl.ini, but maybe I don't understand the instructions....

I gave this (4033) a try and when booting I get this error: 'File not found or corrupted: acpi4.sys'. I don't have this file (eCS 2.1). It seemed to work well for about 5 minutes, but then my desktop froze and I had to hard reset. Is there anything in particular you want tested?

Hardware / Re: Hi IRQ SCSI adapter

Hi guzzi,

Thanks for the offer! It turns out someone I know at work had one laying around in a drawer they let me have. 2 other people had surplus ones at home. Amazing how many of these things can be found if you look...

Thanks guys... that's what I thought but I wanted to check just in case there was something out there. I did look through all the SCSI driver packages on Hobbes and didn't see anything there, but hope springs eternal so I came here. Guess I'll just get another Adaptec.

Does anyone know of a SCSI adapter that has an eCS driver capable of using IRQs above 15? I am looking to replace an old Adaptec U160 adapter...

Hi Paul,

I've spent some time trying to get network scanning going with saned and I'm so close I can smell it... but not quite there. 'Scanimage -L' works fine remotely, but when I try to do 'scanimage > scan.pnm', I hear the scanner initialize, then there is a 30 second lull, then the scanner initializes again and an error show on the remote machine: 'scanimage: sane_read: Error during device I/O'. I'm pretty sure I got all the proper settings in the various conf and TCPIP files.

Is there a way to set up debugging of the network interface of SANE?

Hi Paul,

It's all good! I just like to tinker with these things and see how far I can take them. Any effort you take on any of this stuff is certainly appreciated by me at least... and I'm sure a lot of lurkers too.

Paul,

Yes, my printer is connected to a print server. Just FYI - reading the instructions for hpaio (even though I don't have an HP scanner) inspired me to try getting the HP backend for CUPS printing working. Setting up hplip.conf and running 'hp-mkuri -i 192.168.0.200' (which gave me the proper setting to use for the device), then changing the printer setting in CUPS and now I can print with the HP backend from HPLIP... woohoo! Now I am wondering if it would be possible to use any of the Python scripts that came with HPLIP? I'll eventually get to remote scanning....

Thanks again Paul... this new lsusb works just fine. I have also got your latest SANE working with Tame too - very nice! Think I'll push the envelope and see if I can get saned working and scan remotely...8-)

Paul,

When I try 'lsusb -v'  I get an error: lsusb: 'cannot open "/extras/share/usb.ids", No such file or directory', and indeed there isn't. I do have usb.ids in C:\ecs\bin. I am able to scan with my Epson 2480 photo scanner, thanks!

Demo CD works great on my desktop system (MSI H55M-E33 board with Intel i3). On my laptop (Gateway 7405X), in default mode it tries to load the VIA VT6102 Rhine II NIC, but gives an error about not being able to assign an IRQ. This adapter needs a parameter 'Accept IRQ level>15=YES' in order to use IRQ's over 15 (which is needed in default mode) which I suspect is not being set. Boot eventually hangs on a black screen (waiting for NETBIND?). Unfortunately, this computer will not boot with ACPI in any other mode (boots in legacy but with other IRQ problems - it only works properly with eCS 2.1 in ACPI mode). My WiFi (Broadcom with GenMac) is not recognized by the demo CD, but is with eCS 2.1 install.

Open Office 3.4 for eCS? A couple of months ago there were some developers test releases, but nothing since. Anyone have any news?

Maybe the plugins are disabled? Go to 'Tools' -> 'Add-ons Manager' -> 'Plugins'. Are they listed as 'Disabled'?

 Joop,

Thanks for creating this web site, you obviously have spent a lot of time testing apps. I will refer to it when I try some of these Java apps...
