Do you have something like this in Config.Sys to select which adapter to use?

DEVICE=K:\MMOS2\UNIAUD32.SYS /A:1

Applications / WarpIN: Exception on Main thread
« on: April 27, 2020, 11:45:13 pm »
On a remote system, I get a message when I run WarpIN (see attachment)

The log contains nothing special. The WarpIN directory is on the PATH and LIBPATH which is normal on an eCS 1.2r system. All the files seem to be from version 1.0.22.

Removing the database files didn't help. This copy of WarpIN successfully installed OpenOffice 4.1.3 a few years ago. According to the log, nothing has happened since then.

Hardware / Re: ArcaOS freezes on IBM Thinlpad T43

Installing from USB stick hangs. You probably guessed that. Why did I even try that?

Installing IBM File and Print Client returns an error. I'll post an update after another attempt from DVD.

Following up, I can see that this time, File and Print Client installed successfully. I don't know why it failed before.

It turns out that USB stack 12.1 is the cause of the freezes. I installed USB stack 11.17 and the freezes are gone.

Thanks, Doug. The T43 comes in two flavors, 1xxx and 2xxx. The 1xxx certainly worked better with ACPI. The 2xxx was certified to run MCP. I'm tempted to just run MCP on it.

When the machine freezes, the stick stops, the USB mouse stops (hmmm, maybe eliminate the USB mouse?), the clock stops, control-alt-delete does nothing, control alt shift numlock control alt shift numlock offers to dump to floppy disk.

Hardware / ArcaOS freezes on IBM Thinkpad T43
« on: April 20, 2020, 04:54:23 am »
I am perplexed how I might track this down. The T43 is actually supported under MCP. So I installed ArcaOS without any options and used APM instead of ACPI.

The machine freezes when the mouse hovers over a PM widget. Not every time, but I use a lot of PM programs, most of which are almost entirely made of PM widgets. I can type on command line all day it seems.

Zip is an excellent way to make a backup. Your problem is that you are doing on a running system.

Boot something else; ArcaOS media is OK, or a second installation. Zip just as you have done. Your back up will be perfect. Restore the same way.

Through the Arca Noae beta tester program, I have access to an even newer Uniaud that fixes the speaker problem. I have no idea why Arca Noae is not releasing this driver.

The speaker is off by default. On my Thinkpad X250 (Elbopeep), I use the following to turn on the speaker.

Code: [Select]
unimix -id1 -cnt1 -val87
unimix -id1 =cnt0 -val87

After that, the output is to speaker. If I plug in headphones or external speaker, then output goes to headphones or external speaker.

Hardware / Re: Looking for suggestions a new laptop for Arca OS
« on: April 16, 2020, 04:54:45 pm »
I list extensive information on these laptops. If you want to configure your own, use my webpages as a guide.

My current favorite is the T450s with 1920 x 1080 screen.

You already know that WiFi should be through a Travel Router and the USB 3.0 won't work. I am a beta tester for Arca Noae, so all I can say is that USB 3.0 support looks promising for the future.

Thanks, Ivan.

I used to build systems for people, and I'm still thinking about it.

Seeing as the thread has drifted quite a bit, I'm kind of interested in the idea of building your computer from parts.

I gave up on buying motherboards and parts a few years ago. I found that buying a standard manufactured computer was half the price of buying parts and building your own. Now from this thread, I can see that the built from parts systems have as little as half the performance of the whole systems.

In any business, there is a make vs. buy decision. What made you makers rather than buyers?

If you are on the Arca Noae tester's list, you may have access to a solution for the memory problem. Of course, I really shouldn't be discussing the ins and outs of test software on OS/2 World.

I don't know what audio-video recording software is, but look in the Qt5 apps for other platforms and see if there is something.

I haven't tested, but this is an Intel system like you describe. Based on the hardware documentation, we ought to be able to see resolutions up to 4096 x 2304. Panorama works well on this system.

http://www.blondeguy.com/computer/humbopeep.html

It's a Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s with a PCIe card for USB support and USB Audio device for audio support. I'm interested in testing this out. I like monitors that have good quality while still be a good value. I've been using the same Dell 24 inch for years. If I want to move to higher resolutions, what monitors should I try?
