1) Lucide 1.40 GA - crashes with large PDF files (http://trac.netlabs.org/lucide/ticket/355)

Ticket opened Apr-6th, 1st response Apr-9th, potential workaround only identified on Apr-17th and confirmed that the ticket will not be worked on due to lack of resources...and so it sits out there today despite the fact that it is probably the only native PDF viewer we have. So I go back to my GSView until I can one day (hopefully) run Lucide again.
First, once IBM gave us "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". So, don't trash your working version of a program for some new one. Whatever the reason might be.
Said that, this doesn't help you. Just did a test with a pdf twice the size with
Lucide 1.3.2 GA (2010-04-22) - no problems
JPDFViewer (see my site) - no problems

May be this helps.

Too bad that the focus is n longer on Firefox 45.9.0. It still not running on my system due to libc problems, and as far as I can read, I'm not alone with this problem.

Excuse me, I don't have a choice to embed or not to embed a TrueType font in a Word document
Possibly an opinion instead of valid legal arguments. You're not excused. You have the choice to not use DOCX. Even if you are forced to use DOCX, then you still have the choice to not use a (specific) font which license doesn't allow you to distribute it as a font. And this is hardly relevant anyway.
Shrink wrap solutions, which is the Microsoft system, is forbidden in my country. So, it will be no windows in that case. I don't have any knowledge about which fonts are protected and which might be used free in the Microsoft operating environment. Nor do I have the choice to reject the OS as I have to work with it and with it have to work with a package like Word. In the list of available fonts is no information what font is free and what does have restrictions if you have to compose a file which is for someone else. Privately I have the trouble that as receiver of text files that the sender does not know how to choose a different format. So its docx, and as I can't process this it will be the choice of what can I do or sent the file back, sometimes the last is no option due to the lack of skills on that side.

If you've obtained my UNICODE.DOCX,
Have no knowledge of this file and I'm not interested, so hold your horses.

Nevertheless Microsoft is a good source for what's allowed.
Lots of things which you call "allowed" are not legal in my country. But no one want to loose money and is waiting for years of visiting courts, so Microsoft thinks that it can do what it does, but that does not mean that it is legal.

Do not distribute used fonts which are copyrighted. Please...
I never distribute anything from which it is not clear if it is allowed to redistribute.

This was discussed numerous times. Maybe the whole process is too complex to understand for simple minded users? I don't know.
May be simple minded users use simple systems which are in turn to complex to understand for those who do not belong to the group simple minded users?

The dll hell starts if you mix your different zipped dlls together and that's the reason why the full rpm way is the only one to go currently. And don't say YOU are keen enough to clean up all dlls which would come with all the different packages manually. 99.99% of the OS/2 users proofed they can not.
Thank you, now I know I belong to the group which falls in the 0.01% category LOL.

Looks like that libcx0.dll is the problem, but I might be wrong.

LIBCX0    0001:00009970
EXCEPTQ   0001:00001270  MYHANDLER
LIBC066   0001:000111E4  between __init + C4 and __ctype - 40C
LIBCX0    0001:00009CE1
LIBC066   0001:00046D10  _libc_Back_exceptionHandler
LIBC066   0001:00011172  between __init + 52 and __ctype - 47E
LIBC066   0001:0002887B  between __init_app + B and _sys_init_ret - 1
DOSCALL1  0004:0000C188

I have still a P4 system and as mentioned before, there is no libcx0.dll compiled for P4. May be that's the problem.

Microsoft Word allows you to embed a TrueType font in a Word document so that you can view and edit the font, if licensing rights allow.
Excuse me, I don't have a choice to embed or not to embed a TrueType font i a Word document, its all done automatically by Microsoft package Word. By doing so you give up "allow" and you give up a part of the license in using it because sender and receiver of the file don't have the choice to include or exclude that part.

Don't get it to work. There is trouble with LIBC.

Exception C0000005 - Access Violation

Process:  FIREFOX.EXE (05/21/2018 17:17:07 51,129)
PID:      48 (72)
TID:      01 (1)
Priority: 200

Filename: LIBC066.DLL (10/26/2014 20:16:29 1,361,666)
Address:  005B:1DCBE6C0 (0001:0005E6C0)
Cause:    Attempted to read from 00000001
          (not a valid address)

After that a listing of about 200Kb.
As far as I know its the last version of LIBC (libc-0.6.6-csd6.zip) and the last version of FF (firefox-45.9.0-4.oc00.pentium4.7z) (why not just zip?)
Is there a way to run the program?

I hate licensing like this as the PDF says one thing and the authours web site says something else.

You are right. Licensing should be clear, open and free for any use, otherwise there is risk.
It may be interesting to keep looking around, the GNU Unifont is nice but Symbola is working better for me.

Regards
License??? There is no license. Download a docx file from Word. Open the file with File Commander/2 or similar, because it is not a docx but a zip file with a different name. In it all kinds of stuff including the used fonts in the document. The document itself can be found as an rtf file. So Mickey Mouse can say what they want, if they mean it serious then they heave to remove the fonts out of there docx files. As it is allowed to share documents made with the program Word with someone else that "someone else" person automatic get the used fonts in order to get the document right when he/she opens the document with Word or an other program which support the docx format. Save the font somewhere else and you can use it everywhere. My view.

I have added today a new program to my OS/2-eCS Java website. Its called Rachota and it is a program for timetracking different projects. There was no Dutch language available, so I made a new language file with Dutch and updated the program. You can read more on this page http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e128.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n128.htm.

There is a picture too;

Oh, don't worry, there is English and a lot more languages. The program detected Dutch and can now show the program in the Dutch language.

Have fun!

Events / Re: Announcing Warpstock Europe 2019!
« on: June 29, 2018, 03:51:03 am »
You can read some of the reasons here https://www.warpstock.eu.
May be its me, but I can't find "reasons" why it has to be so early.

The event will be organized at the Stay Okay Soest on the 18th and 19th
of May 2019. Access for Saturday and Sunday costs 105 Dollars. This is a
discounted rate until the 31st of July 2018! Normal price is 120 Dollars.
Your sure about the amount? Look like the rate for a four person room. Could not book on the hostel site because the date is not accepted as booking date. Seems to be to far ahead.

Bitlocker? What do you mean? File system encryption?
My office system works only with bitlocker due to the new European law effective from 25 may this year. So every external stick or sd card has to be encrypted. Next to that, every camera or garmin or so device is seen as a big drive and need therefore also be encrypted, only those devices can't work with bitlocker systems. I found a solution for my office system and the combination with my eCs system when it comes to exchange files between the two.
Camera can be limited to size  of 2 GB (SD), or 32 GB (SDHC). 8 GB is seen equally well by OS/2 if it's seen by camera. Or, do you mean, file sizes on FAT32 are limited to 2 or 4 GB? BTW, newer versions of fat32.ifs support files up to 4 GB, if you specify "/largefiles" on the command line. Otherwise, it supports up to 2 GB (as any 16-bit file system). Don't know which bits or bytes could be missing. Do you mean, a file system structure, or a hardware peculiarity?
I have four 8Gb sd cards. Two of them are successfully "restructured" with DFSee so that and eCS and the camera accepts them. The two other cards won't work, used same procedure as for the other two, but for some reason it will work in eCS and not in the camera or the other way around.  Its just for transport of pictures from around 10Mb each. I hope its clear now.

2Joop: SD or USB key won't work due to size problems? What do you mean? I didn't encountered such SD or USB disks. I have a 64 GB USB flash and 128 GB microSDXC flash, both working fine with fat32.ifs (either FAT32 or exFAT).
I have four 8Gb sd's, two of them do fine, two of them are a mystery. Did format and lvm'ed with DFSee, had a lot of mail with Jan van Wijk. As far as I can see is that those two don't have all the bits and bytes on the right places. If its okay for my camera its not okay for OS/2 and if its okay for OS/2 its not okay for the camera. That kind of problems. Next that stupid bitlocker stuff.

The "cloud" is handy for stuff that you want to share anyways, such as GPL code.
As we can access the cloud with OS/2 you can use the cloud for transport of data to your own other systems if SD disk or USB key won't work due to size problems. Just zip the data with password and after successful transport you can delete the file. I use this way for transport of data between a Windows 10 machine with bitlocker and my eCS system. No way you can use SD disks on such systems as bitlocker is only for certain Windows machines with certain specifications. Again a stupid invention of Microsoft in order to get more market share.
