What are your OS/2 system specifications Joop? Any major issues setting it up at all?
Main system is a P4, installation by hand, always mind over machine in such cases. I have 3 installations of eCS on the machine including DOS 7 or 8 (did not run it for some time) with Psion emulators using same disk space and data(!).
I do have a 386 with OS/2 latest Dutch for testing purpose if a OS program won't install on the eCs machine like Pen for OS/2. And I have a P1 with I believe Ecs 1.0 Dutch, my old main system.

Joop nice to see. I guess you can run OS/2 variants in a virtual machine if need be.
??? For what reason? I run eCS 1.2 Dutch, thats it. OS/2 is backwards compatible as long as its version is 2.11 (2.xx?) or higher. Some DOS programs wants the whole machine, I run those in DosBox. Windows 3.11 no problem as long as it is Windows 3.x ;-). Have several Java versions next to each other for testing purposes, it doesn't bite so to speak.

I run eCS 1.2 as main system, can do things with this OS which are impossible on other OS systems. Running seamless OS/2, Win3.1, DOS. There are still very good DOS programs which do fly on today's systems. Need Win3.1 for some programs without any replacements.

Hi Joop.

Can you check if the newer Freeplane 1.6.15 is also working ?

Regards
Hi Martin,
Sorry, that will not work. On my site you can read why. Since version 1.5.x you need Java version 7 due to some functions not found in Java 6. I did test it, but the result was a bug file with the information that my version 6 was too low.
I have updated the link to version 1.3.15 because they altered the directories. Version 1.3.15 is as far as I know the last usable version for Java 6. We just need an update on the Java engine to version 8 or 9, but I'm afraid we have to wait a little longer as the QT Browser has more priorities. Said that, if we get a version 8 or 9 I have a big nightmare ;-), everything have to be tested and updated on my site, all 124 Java applications.
I have still some programs on test, but time does fly these days.
Regards,
Joop

I have some in Dutch, but it will take some time to find them all. What about eCS?

Everything with mouse is in OS/2 loaded on the mouse product. Have you tried with USB Device Monitor program in finding out if it is an USB product?

I really don't know what this is all about. I read this in "Input/Output Device Driver Reference for OS/2";

COPYRIGHT LICENSE: This publication contains printed sample application programs in source language, which illustrate OS/2 programming techniques. You may copy, modify, and distribute these sample programs in any form without payment to IBM, for the purposes of developing, using, marketing or distributing application programs conforming to the OS/2 application programming interface.

Each copy of any portion of these sample programs or any derivative work, which is distributed to others, must include a copyright notice as follows: "(C) (your company name) (year).  All rights reserved."

(C) Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 1996. All rights reserved.
Note to U.S. Government Users - Documentation related to restricted rights - Use, duplication or disclosure is subject to restrictions set forth in GSA ADP Schedule Contract with IBM Corp.

I don't read that you may not distribute it, that you may not modify it or that you may not copy it. This one comes from OS/2 Developer Connection Device Driver Kit, Version 4 Edition (June 1996).

Its very simple. If AN does do that and doesn't publish with the result of no working existing drivers and no way out in developing new, then for me its game over. I need my (usb) pen or I will get severe trouble with my hand. If AN chooses this path then it will be a sort term vision for AN. I don't believe that DDK license is valid today because IBM did quit with OS/2. There business is not harmed with it because they don't sell OS/2 anymore. Simple as that. If they are active with it it will be an other matter, but so far no noise from IBM about OS/2.

I have added today a new program to my OS/2-Java website. Its called High-Throughput Tabular Data Processor or HDTP for short. It can read direct exports from Data Crow and do something with it. In my database how much books do I have from what printer. Options are almost endless. The program can handle more memory then available in OS/2 or its successors up to today. You can read more on this page http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e127.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n127.htm.

Have a picture too;

Have fun!

#1 A good audio player with playlists and generous file support. It should be able to play: .MP3, .OGG, .FLAC, .IT, .S3M, .MOD, .XM--basically something that could be a distant shadow to xmplay (which there isn't even anything quite like it on Linux, but it can run in WINE). Or maybe I'm just too used to XMplay :p
Still use z.exe, but there are more. We can also run DOS, Windows 3.1 and we have Java with some players.

#2 A decent quick image editing program--like Pinta or Paint.NET
Too many available, native OS/2, DOS, Windows3.1, Java, QT with all levels of editing way up to something like the Gimp.

#3 Audio editing, like Audacity but for OS/2
As far as I know you can run Audacity in OS/2 with Odin. But strictly editing is something for Windows or Apple because all big equipment manufacturers only bring drivers for both. Whats left is playing with your audio card with two, may be four channels.
I tried a few things in Java, but we need a more up to date version.

#4 Advanced text editor with the ability to change the colours--like Notepad++ or any other common editors out there
Too many available, native OS/2, DOS, Windows3.1, Java, QT with all levels of editing.

The ability to play common audio formats in playlists, and also the ability to run tracker files is the most wanted thing I'm looking for at the moment.
Z.exe will do that, but the problem is that not every broadcast site will deliver pls format and demand a more specific player. I believe this was the reason for ending development of Z.exe.

If anyone wanted to provide me some pointers where I should start out with?
You can try Hobbes http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/, Java http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e.htm, Qt ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/qtapps/.

Today I have added a new program to my site. It has to do with logging astronomical objects. So its a program for a very special purpose. You can read more om my page http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e126.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n126.htm. Don't be afraid for the used language in the picture below, its detected automatically and it happens that I have a Dutch installation.

It looks like this;

So, that's number one for 2018 ;-).

Have fun!

I have uploaded today some pages about an application for quickly browsing, organizing and commenting digital photographs and publishing the resulting albums as web pages. Its called JPhotoAlbum and you can find more on my page http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6e125.htm or in Dutch http://joopn.home.xs4all.nl/os2ecs/ecs6n125.htm. All those programs which make html pages do have problems when it comes to validating. This program no exception. But I have wrote some lines about it and how to overcome the problems which was easy with this program.

I have a picture from the program too, not from the html page;

That's it for this year, see you next year and hopefully with more Java programs. I also hope we can welcome a new Java version, programs for version 6 are getting more difficult month after month. I think/guess that I have made a statement that Java is also interesting for OS/2 based computers. This one is number 125, there are more, but need a higher version of Java.

Have fun!

Multimedia / Re: Saving OS/2 icons - OS/2 icon format in 2017
« on: December 22, 2017, 02:11:55 pm »
I played a lot with IconEditor. With the right template you can go up to 256x256 icons. You can save them too, you can use them too, but OS/2 or eCS will downsize it to 40x40. So what's the point? Always work in 24 bit, even if its much less. Has to do with colors which are not in the palette and I refuse to make separate palettes for each icon. Usually it will take less then five minutes to make an icon with 16x16, 20x20, 32x32 and 40x40. You have to remember that in the editor things show ugly and rough, but as soon as it is started as an icon at the right size it looks rather smooth. I never got 2.0 working, somewhere in the editor its disabled. I'm working mostly with PMView and IconEditor, when it totally sucks I try Embellish > PMView > IconEditor. Key to good icons is go first to a square with sizes which can be divided to the right size. Example 256 > 128 > 64 >32 > 16 and 320> 160> 80> 40> 20. You can start bigger. If it isn't these value's or bigger,  first make it so in the highest resolution because you won't see the loss in the smaller one's. If you don't start with these sequence, its not necessary to start with 320, 256 or less, you will end up in the icon size with losses which will give rough edges or can damage the appealing factor. Mind that small things are not noticeable, so your icon must consist of simple things which are also recognizable when its 20x20 or 16x16.

Programming / Re: IBM Mouse Acceleration Algorithm
« on: December 15, 2017, 11:41:49 am »
I can find this: Amouse (2007/11/01) is a driver for mice with single wheel. This package contains the source code of the GUI elements. Source code included. Released as open source under the BSD 3 Clauses license. Requires OS/2 Warp 4 / eCS 1.0 or later. Uploaded by Martin Iturbide. From Noller & Breining Software.

As it says, only the GUI elements. It might be that the driver isn't public code. You have to ask Noller & Breining Software if they are still in business.
