Hi Pete,

This brought my avi files back:

One tip is to change the conf.xml for avi files, make sure this section looks like below. Without this only my Mkv files showed up and they don't work on my iPad, I was pissed til I found this, LOL

<!-- Uncomment the line below for PS3 divx support -->
        <map from="avi" to="video/divx"/>
        <!-- Uncomment the line below for D-Link DSM / ZyXEL DMA-1000 -->
        <map from="avi" to="video/avi"/>

Setup & Installation / Re: Working Samba server ???
« on: April 17, 2015, 12:13:16 pm »
see http://trac.netlabs.org/samba

On a new eCS 2.1 install the default EVFSGUi shows NT_ACCESS DENIED for all Samba server ? Then on other eCS boxes they work & can mount them property (see attached pic).  What levels should I update to ?

...

Ok, I think I figured out the client side out for eCS 2.1 - Do not use this if you have a yum/rpm env. If you do use Yum, then use steps 3, 5, 6, 7, 8.

http://trac.netlabs.org/samba

1) kLibc 0.6.6 Library - kLibc Runtime libraries required by all Samba related installations. Do not use them if you have a yum/rpm env.

2) GCC 4 Core Libraries - GCC 4 runtime libraries required by all Samba related installations. Do not use them if you have a yum/rpm env.

3) REXX libraries 1.1.1 - Several REXX libraries required for running the Samba GUI Tools, please, uninstall any older revision of this package!

4) RPM base DLLs 1.5 - Several DLLs (updated 17/04/2014) from the rpm/yum package used by recent Samba builds. Do not use them if you have a yum/rpm env. (The following DLLs are found in this package: readln6.dll, tinfo5.dll, urpo.dll, mmap.dll, popt.dll, z.dll)

5) ndpsmb-2_1_5-GA-20131003.wpi

6) smbclut-1_3_beta1-868-20141127.zip

7) evfsgui-25RC7-20141213.zip

8) add below to the lmhost file - if enties are not added for your Samba server & a course change to  IP-address   NetBIOS-name to match your system.

---

# Created by EVFSGUI Version 2.5.RC7-[2014-11-14] on 17 Apr 2015 at 05:46:46
# Syntax:
# IP-address             NetBIOS-name     [Role]
192.168.1.100            ECS-S
192.168.1.200            ECS-22

Any tips or corrections ?

Hi All

I was going to start a new thread but this is closely related... Greggory may want to include some of this in his "current mainboard roundup".
...

Pete

Good info thanks Pete !  I'll add it over the next couple of weeks I need to reorganize & redo those pages anyways.

Oh, how is the ATI X550 graphics card with SNAP & WarpOverlay ? What's your setup with that and the monitor(s) used ?

I was trying to wait until the article, but great results so far for the $49 fully supported ASRock 775I65G R3.0 (onboard vid, lan and sound all work with eCs 2.1 & 2.2 ) including Win 7 and OpenSuse 13.2 installs only no testing yet.

http://os2notes.net/os2machine.html

Important Note - only tested CPU with FSB 800/533 MHz, if using a CPU with a FSB 1066 MHz you MUST use a 1.5v AGP external graphics & DDR400 memory with CL= 2.5 otherwise it will boot once and fail the next time after powered off. http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/voltageslots.jpg

Don't have either the readme at hand nor an os/2 machine. But I remember you have to start mediatomb with something like -ip statement pointing to the IP address of the server machine.
Michael

Good memory Michael !  Yes create a program object with the paramenter:  --ip your ip address

Hi Doug, I tried the Virtualized ecs list and found nothing that helped.  I looks like you made sound work somewhat using ecs as a host with a Windoz client. How did you manage that?  I also have a Windoz client along with SuSE 12.3 but have gotten nowhere getting any sound when in Linux or windows.
Thanks for any ideas from you or anybody else that might have information as to how to make this work.

klipp

I buy my DVDs & go to the movies for A list ones, but abandon-ware I have a different look on.  You can find VirtualPC for OS/2 on the net (I bought mine for over $200) the last Win I tried was XP with sound.  But I'm pretty sure the old VBox port does not have stable sound (like Doug stated) - email Paul S. about the details or who ported it or find and download VirtualPC for OS/2 !

Hi Greggory

Sure ffmpeg, mplayer, memcode...  It runs on Java 6 I'm using it right now after replacing those files ! Is there a permanent way to odinize files ?

Move 'Mediatomb' to the root directory to get it running Pete and keep the home directory inside the Mediatomb directory.

Interesting... Here the UMS download links look like this:-

http://sourceforge.net/projects/unimediaserver/files/Official%20Releases/Windows/UMS-5.1.0-Java7.exe/download

Ie they all mention Java7 - as do forum discussions about current UMS builds.

...

Now, on to working out how to configure and use this software... All tips/experiences welcome.

...

On the main page to the right of the 3 download options is an arrow, click on that for Java 6, 7, 8.

Here's Java 6
http://sourceforge.net/projects/unimediaserver/files/Official%20Releases/Windows/UMS-5.1.0-Java6.exe/download

Thx for the Odin info Pete ! I'm going to go over it this weekend, so I'll keep you posted.

Another tip is to use 'Infuse' video player on iPad if you hava an iPad/iPhone it's insane on the connection options !

Cheers

Something else, how about a favicon poll/contest for OS2World.com ?

I'm tired of the blank space on my Firefox bookmark bar, LOL  :)

Which programs do you need?
How to download UMS? I tried and got a small jar file,  wrapper.jar which I'm not sure what to do with.
BTW ac3 is kind of broken, at least in FFmeg (compression permanently turned on, plus in the last couple of weeks a few fixes for common crashes committed).

Hi Dave (I see ur name on a lot of ports - Thank you !!! ),

I installed the Windows version and copied to eCS - http://sourceforge.net/projects/unimediaserver/files/Official%20Releases/Windows/UMS-5.1.0-Java6.exe/download and copied the .BAT to a CMD startup file.  (Chromecast seem to be broken).

Homepage: http://www.universalmediaserver.com/  - download links for Linux & Mac there.

I need OS2 versions of:  tsMuxeR, tsMuxeR-new.exe(?), dcraw and avisynth(?) these are in the UMS windows version (these seem to be optional).

Dave I was wondering if you could take a quick look at the Linux version (http://www.universalmediaserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=33). Could it's non-java programs be easier to port ? Mediatomb is old, and UMS would be a great addition to eCS.

Major issues: playing mkv files with spaces in the path (i just finished removing the dots, LOL )?

Solution for me: mediatomb & infuse for ipad.

iPad:  'Infuse' for ipad is insane for playback with Media Servers !
If you stream to an ipad you must check this app out it blows away VLC or MPlayer for iOS !!! I'm telling you it connects to anything and plays anything!

OS/2: Mediatomb is fast and native (going to ask Paul about the transcoding issues), I think there's a lot of stuff hard coded like the home path & location of the main exe.

Note: having AC3 issues, use Seriio media server (no OS/2 version though Java 8 ) it streams my Mkv files /w AC3 to my ipad with no problems or buy the codec for Infuse !

Shouldn't the OS/2 binaries be drop in replacements in the Windows version of Mediatomb? Perhaps with some PATH massaging.

Yes, that's what I did, but there's a couple that haven't been port to OS2 or I haven't found them yet. I would use Mediatomb, but I need it to transcode the audio in my Mkv files. I can't get the conf settings quite right in either one yet. There talk of VLC adding back AC3 as an buy option for the codec, so I'll probably just wait on that or buy infuse !

Funny side the app 'cloud browser' that I use to manage my command line linux server will play the Mkv files (poorly).

Hi Greggory

Judging by the fact that UMS is available for Windows, Linux and Mac I would guess that it is not pure java and relies on some "native" operating system support files for some functionality.

It also looks like java7 is required.

Pete
