Is there a way to disable or to reduce the frequency of the message "You haven't used FF for a while. Welcome back! Do you want to renew/refresh/tune up FF?".

The answer would be no/never, to not have to install add-ons and restore the UI language again, but it looks like that's not an option.

It's been answered on here search the forum and it's on the Warpzilla tips page too.

Some more updates:

Samba 4.6.0 client (this one needed more source changes that the above)
smbcln46.dll and smbclient.exe:

ndpsmb.dll based on Samba 4.6.0 is at (needs smbcln46.dll from the above)

Feedback appreciated - Samba 4.4 is security fixes only now.

Updated for Samba 4.6, little testing but working with my Win10 & latest Samba/2 server so far !

Thx Paul !

Does your RsyncBackup create live backup/copy of a disk/partition (so disk=>disk copy)? Or is it primarily meant to create a ZIP backup?

I ask because I have been using dSync (dSync for OS/2, Version 0.1.6z  (c) 2001-2003 by MaDdEd-Ii) for a number of years now. It runs once every 24 hrs and simply syncs up my partitions...

RsyncBackup/2 uses zip for the boot partition only & Rsync for the rest.

I can no longer recommend dSync (see link):,6.0.html

And if not in hardware, what are the thoughts of mirroring in the OS?  I see over on hobbes there is a RAID driver, VRAID 2.3.  Does anyone have experience with that or other software implementations to mirror drives they would recommend?

Sure easy & timed backups too.

I had this setup working, you should be able to find one from eBAy (new $70-90) ! And don't get cheap, buy a new one (it's your backups) !

Get with the program Martin. ...

Bit out of line (did you just scan the title?), Martin asked a general question about Win/Dos and wanted useful responses about what programs people still use.

It amazes me all the time on the effort and great work Martin does for the OS/2 community.

If you know a friend of a friend that works on a place that may uses OS/2's Win16, please try to find the industry and name of the software that they are running or that company.

This info may be important to a company that is upgrading to Blue Lion or in general.

Posted new article on installing the Samba 4 plugin /w NetDrive

Also, I'm looking for the command line syntax that you use with EVFS for the next part of the article.

According to real programmers embedding it isn't that hard, as such.
Are you sure that you are not mixing up applying and provision here?

Any chance of a writeup on how to get this working with evfs?

Sure, I have about 5 or 6 going now but I'll put this out first (both server & client).  But, going on a cruise next week so could be a couple weeks.

If someone could post their command line syntax for EVFS that would be great !  I would like to add that section to the article.

A few thoughts:

Seeing a server but not its shares: This may be a result of disabling the guest account and/or denieing browsing rights to it.

I think I found the issue when I use the command: yum install libc libcx libgcc1 cups-libs popt-libs gettext-libs zlib readline

I overwrote Paul version of libcx, my fault.

Samba 1.3 and Paul's Samba client installed and working great (with Win 10 too) !

Any luck on getting EVFS connecting to Win 10 ? I got NetDrive working.

The commandline syntax for EVFS would be great !!!

Update: I got EVFS working wrong libcx0.dll

So, I'm seeing a different result Paul with libcx0.dll needed the one you provided.

Thank you Paul

On my clients, now the server shows up, but none of the shares do and so I can't mount any of them. Have to keep digging...

Hi David,

I have the same issue of not seeing any shares on my server from my client machine, any luck ?

1) I deleted Samba 3.6.24 with settings and installed 3.6.25 on my media server.  Install samba on a test machine and still a no go on seeing the media server shares.

2) Also on a new install of Samba, I specified a different WORKGROUP name but that wasn't added to the 'smb.conf' file or the NETBIOS of the computer either.

3) No problem accessing Samba 1.3 from Win 10 or an OS/2 machine without Samba 1.3 installed (even tired with Samba 4 client).

4) With the Samba 4 client installed I get the message when trying to access the servers:

Code: [Select]

Is anyone else having these problems ?

Thank you to the developers for all the work on Samba everyone

Keep getting a 'could not find a valid language file' error when I try starting the Samba Status Monitor ...

David did you fix this error?  I'm getting the same here.

Perhaps something like:
filedate = SPACE( TRANSLATE( STREAM( fileName, "C", "QUERY DATETIME" ),, SPACE( TRANSLATE( XRANGE(),, XRANGE( 0, 9 ) ), 0 ) ), 0 )

Hi Jan,

Thank you so much for all the help and everyone else that has commented and helped out !!!
