Mediatomb sounds like a good thing, particularly if running under Java 6.

Mediatomb is a native OS/2 program (ported from somewhere else). It is not JAVA. Access is through a web browser.

UMS in written in Java:

Hi Neil I used Ftp too, but VLC for iOS removed the AC3 codec :(

And a course my Mkv files use AC3, hopefully I can get UMS to transcode them

Multimedia / Media Servers for OS/2 ?
« on: April 01, 2015, 08:11:38 am »
I just moved all my files (DVDs / Torrents) to a eCS machine (RAID 2TB).

1) Could someone post their Mediatomb setup please or post any tips on the setup !
http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php?page=mediatomb

2) Is any9one using Universal media server (Java 6 ) ? I got the Win version partially working with my iPad ! Universal Media Server is a media server capable of serving videos, audio and images to any DLNA-capable device.

It would be a great addition to eCS, could the Linux version be ported to eCS ?

The comparison chart looks great

Lars: That sounds like the bug where updating Python to 2.7 would break urlgrabber and thus yum.  The fix is to xcopy the \usr\lib\python2.6\site-packages\urlgrabber directory to \usr\lib\python2.7\site-packages\urlgrabber, then run 'yum update urlgrabber'.

Internet / Re: Yahoo website looks strange on OS/2 Firefox
« on: March 19, 2015, 03:46:40 am »
As far as user agent switchers go, the one I found (see previous message), doesn't remember its settings. If I set it to Internet Exporer 8, the next restart of Firefox has it back to default. I guess that's good enough, but what I'd really like is to change to Internet Explorer 8 and leave it that way.

Does anyone know a user agent switcher that works that way?

There is a new libdvdcss out. VLC comes with dvdcss.dll, which libdvdcss comes with dvdcss2.dll. Can VLC use dvdcss2.dll?

...

Yes, it was just uploaded to Hobbes - vlc-2.2.0-fix1.zip

then do some research on some better motherboards and post it.

Currently, I am looking at an Asus A88XM-A motherboard, but I can't say that it will, or won't, work, because I don't have it, yet. Since I am in no rush, I probably won't get one of them, simply because they won't be available for much longer (except on the clearance shelves).

Well, there you go (ur question why am I do this)- the ASUS A88XM-A had 40-45% bad reviews before I drop it from consideration.

Where as the ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X has much better reviews so far. Instead of your first post (no info) start by comparing my choice with your choice next time :)

And the A88XM-A is $54 - the $49 fully supported ASRock 775I65G R3.0 (onboard vid, lan and sound) is much better if it's an OS/2 only system or even up to Win 7 (yes, u still need Win sometimes).  Also the onboard graphics is one of the few THAT is fully accelerated by SNAP and can use  the rest of the features of SNAP too.

And yes guzzi I know Doug does alot too (but as you said :) ) - guzzi ur post I never read them, because the whole thing is qouted ? It's very hard since you quote everything and it's usually long.

Ok, well at least I got one vote !  So moving I'm on to 'Video Cards' for OS/2 !

I am not sure what you think you are going to learn from this exercise. Motherboards are obsolete after about 3 month

3 months ??? - the ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2 has a five year warranty and military grade components.

Dude go back to the qpdfview thread and piss them off some more, especially if you dont have any good info to post on motherboards.

At least I'm trying for the community instead of disrupting it most of the time. Don't like the choices (like you read them), then do some research on some better motherboards and post it.

But one more try for motherboards.  VOTE - for the top 3 OS/2 motheboards !

Webpage - http://os2notes.net/os2motherboards.html

1) Must still being produce (check new egg, it will show out of stock if discontinued).
2) Comment on the motherboards sound & lan results
3) Video card used or onboard graphics.

Setup & Installation / Re: eStyler vs. Styler ?
« on: February 28, 2015, 03:07:49 am »
I don't know if there is an uninstaller (would expect there is) I can say you can run both estyler and Styler/2 as I am doing so.  There are few overlapping functions and I use estyler for the overlapping ones and disable those in Styler/2.

Thanks Andy ! What are the overlapping functions ?

Setup & Installation / eStyler vs. Styler ?

I dont see an uninstall for eStyler on eCom 2.1. or 2.2 .  Could it be as simple as disable enhancement in eStyler and install Styler !

And since it's open-source now, is there a freeware key or key available (in-box me) ?

Then it looks like one thing I wanted to do in OS/2 will not be possible  :(

Why not - they're on eBay for $10 bucks (NEW) free shipping ! If your going to be using OS/2 trust me eBay is going to be your new best friend:) - well not so much using a VM, Lol.  Any reason why you're not using vBox networking ?

Ever thought about writing something up for everyone, you're installing Warp 4 right ? Os2notes.net needs some more content - http://os2notes.net/os2virtualbox.html

By the way, for people interested just in CardDAV-CalDAV, SabreDAV works very well on OS/2 server.

Thanks Gabriele - Just what I was looking for I'll see how it works with Owncloud !
