Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: OS2World Layout
« on: June 03, 2014, 03:42:27 pm »
So, what do you think? A new layout? Do you read all the OS2World news completely, of you just like to click on ones that you think are interesting?

I like the pick and choose better.

However, I would just add something like his format on a different page to os2world - I really like his full page format. Just add a little icon next the news post, so you don't have to mess with os2worlds current homepage format.

I was planning on doing something like that with news and new uploads from Hobbes too. With a rexx app, so anyone can just drag and drop their news or software on it.  It would auto upload to Hobbes and post the news auto too.

I have a working rexx app and news server, just haven't got around to it yet.

Well, the site looks about right, both on eCS and the new Firefox 24 beta and also on iPad with Mercury Browser

Thanks Neil for the feedback !

Here's the final look before I turn it into a site template, any suggestions or comments ! Especially on the html part (yes I was lazy on the ul/ol list) - CSS is a mess because it was a lot harder going from one to 6 stylesheets.

I got my old domain back, so the final URL is:

I'm trying to add a mobile template to the site now. It should change on wide-screen, iPads, and phones ? Any feedback on these devices would be much appreciated ! I'm trying to learn Html5 and CSS3, so don't be offended by my cut and paste skills :)

I hope the sidebar looks Ok enough, because I can't get the position any better :( one thing that I really want fixed is the box-shadow around the sidebar.  The problem it runs down the length of the page and I want it to stop after the sidebar.    Fixed the sidebar.

If you already have a copy, then I'm pretty sure IBM won't mind for personal use - anyways does the license even mention VMs back in the early 90s ?

Also, you can search the web for pre-made VMs that are fully updated too.

The story that the NSA knew about this vulnerability for a couple of years and didn't tell anyone as it was handy for spying.

Well, I'm pretty sure that the NSA doesn't have any problems getting around or through SSL in the first place ;)

Programming / MPlayer/2 Drag & Drop install script /w Mp3 support !

Media Pack v.006 - I added a few things to Jeps install script. I'm going to be offline for awhile.

Updated to v.006

Media Pack started as a Rexx install script for mPlayer (by Jep !), now it has the ablity to install mPlayer/2 by Drag & Drop. The ability to install the MP3 codec and remove the old MMAVI class has also been added to the script.

Backup up the .mplayer directory in the home directory

I need to add a backup for existing 'config' files.

Download here:

Hi Greggory

I will also like to invite you to write some lines about MPlayer and OS/2 on the
It uses the same userid/password of this forum.

I'm going to be offline for about a week, but I'll write something up during that time. I just finished an install script for mplayer, mp3 codec and remove the old MMAVI codecs !

Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey - Drag&Drop install script!

I got sick of installing Firefox manually, so I wrote this script. Just drop any Firefox zip file on the object and it automatically unzips and installs Firefox. It has two options, 1) update existing installation and 2) specify install location for Firefox !

The latest version of FirefoxDD v.017b:

1) FirefoxDD: which adds advanced install options for FF, TB & SM - including backups and RUN! - switched the versioning to match the level of latest Firefox supported.

Download the script here:

Updated to v.017b

Simple install option:
- Keeps file associations intact
- Backups previous installation
- Now handles Firefox, Thunderbird & Seamonkey
- Includes the latest required DLLs

Advanced install option:
- Now handles Firefox, Thunderbird & Seamonkey
- Optional backup of the previous version
- Specify location for installation
- RUN! is now included - auto setup has now been added.

Setup & Installation / Re: ecs2.2 beta refresh

... So far there is no hint of audio from the on-board Realtek ALC887.  We'll see about that.  So far so good.  Now I'll begin installing software.  Wish me luck.

My board has a ALC887 and works with the stock uniaud driver from eCom 2.1 - try those !

... Has anybody done it? How? Are there any tips?

I was just looking at this the other day and couldn't find anything either. Then, I saw a reference to WSEB.  I booted one up and sure enough the LVM program has the option => Expand !

Hi All

You could try wps2rexx -

You use wps2rexx to create rexx scripts of the existing Desktop.......

Ill check it out Pete thanks !

Update - I tried RoboSave and got a lot of errors, UPDATE: works on new install and on my original backup system. And I also tried copying the archive directory over to the new install, but that didn't work either.

I'm going to keep trying with the archive method for a while, any tips ! I have a license for Object Desktop, so I'm going to re-install that next. Ill post everything to my website as soon as I get it working. I'm pretty sure OD will do the job.

RoboSave is extensible by editing and adding to  I had it even backing up my bookmarks and various other things. The problem with it is that it wants to restore to the same version of OS/2. Not sure how it would interpret eCS.

The same version (eCS 2.0, 2.1 ... etc) or the same install base ???

Setup & Installation / How do you transfer your old WPS to eCS 2.2 ?
« on: March 13, 2014, 06:10:25 am »
I was thinking about a new install of my eCS 2.1 system.

So the question is with eCS 2.2 coming out soon, is there a way to transfer your old desktop ?

I think I remember Object Desktop had that ability.
