couldn't find a package for unrpming.
Unpackaging .rpm files works as follows:

Code: [Select]
rpm2cpio file.rpm | cpio -i

Not an answer to your question: Note that QSInit supports only FAT16 for the RAM disk.

There's no general answer to your question. It depends on a specific case.

One hasn't the right to demand anything, as long as it's not commercial software. Making donations usually improves motivation, but nothing more. Being an advocate for OSS, I think this item is clear to you.

I remember quite a lot of cases when developers made false estimations about the release date. The developer you're talking about could have run into that. But first you should respect what he said about it. You have to respect his decision to not release anything uncompleted.

Usually developers aren't that strict. They just sound so. One could try to convince him to release a beta or alpha version before.

Setup & Installation / Re: Minimal config.sys

I've found it:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fde.os2.org%2Fforum%2Fdiskussion%2Findex.php3%3Fid%3D137307&sandbox=1

Note that Holger is still working on improving his patch that made it into the 14.106 kernel. 14.106 fixes the DLL unloading bug in almost all cases but not in all.

Moreover, see the ConfigTool .inf file: start view cfgdat memman

The following are missing or should be changed, IMO, for newer kernels and for the use with JFS:
Code: [Select]
MEMMAN=SWAP,NOPROTECT,NOPACK  (<-- Recommended by Holger Veith)
VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=1536
DEVICE=\OS2\BOOT\UNICODE.SYS
Additionally, I'm not sure if DOS.SYS is required for non-DOS setups to make setboot work.

Applications / Re: Text mode program object in mode co80,50
« on: May 10, 2016, 12:26:32 pm »
If I create a text mode program object, can I make it start in mode co80,50?
I have a program object with:
Path and file name = *
Parameters = /k mode co80,70 & cls & %

Or set various environment variables before starting it up?
Use the method above or use one of these WPS enhancements by Rich Walsh:

1) DragText's DTProgram class adds an environment page to a WPS program object settings notebook.

2) Run! allows to load an .env file for environment strings beneath the (renamed) Run!.exe file. I haven't figured out how to get this to work, but it may be caused by the DragText WPS enhancement.

Applications / Re: File comparison editor wanted

That looks like just what I'm looking for... but I can't find anywhere to download it from..
Download: http://trac.netlabs.org/qtapps/wiki/QT4%20Development
Installation: http://www.ecsoft2.org/kdiff3 and the included readme.
Documentation: http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/doc/index.html

Note that I didn't have to install anything mentioned on ecsoft2.org. (The packages were already installed for other apps.) Even cups.dll is not required to start and use that app.

Hi Pete, unfortunately there are no useful ideas so far, IMO. Good luck. It would help to see a report with that issue reproduced.

I'm looking for an editor which can show two files side by side and highlight the differences between them.
I use NEPMD for editing and KDiff3 for file comparison. KDiff3 is by far the best app for that, IMO.

@Andreas Schnellbacher - although not what John needs as far as I understand him correctly, changing boot drive letter is not impossible. Find/replace all f.i. C:\ to X:\ in config.sys and the two ini files will do most of the job (carefully checking every occurrence is mandatory). Find/replace recursively in *.cmd files maybe necessary too. Of course without using the WPS for any copying. Not something I would suggest anyone else but doable.
Hi Andi, that's why I wrote near to impossible. It's more work to move the old installation to another drive letter than to start from a re-installed boot drive. Daniela Engert explained the option how to move the installation, but copying has to be made with the WPS then. Most WPS objects refer to file objects from the boot drive. They might lose their link if you change boot drive letters and perform the copy without the WPS.

Even the both ini files contain several places with hard-coded drive letters. If you keep the drive letters of your Apps drive, then the objects keep working. Otherwise you have to adjust countless config files, e.g. those for Mozilla apps, manually.

After all, I seem to have misunderstood John a bit.

No, it's near to impossible to change boot drive letters in OS/2. If you want to change others, then you should do that from the WPS you want to use finally to keep at least program objects, links and object handles working.

Copying data files (without existing WPS objects) works better without the WPS. Use either a file manager or xcopy x:\ y:\ /h/o/t/s/e/r/v. I usually omit the /v option (verify) to speed up the process.

In your case it should not be necessary to change drive letters. Plan your partition sizes on the new disk. If you want to change the destination file system, then you can't use DFSee to copy partitions (which is faster). You have to copy files. Therefore boot from another partition (or from CD/DVD) and use xcopy or a file manger.

Even when you'll end up with two hard disk which both have the same drive letters and LVM, the volumes from the disk with the booted volume come first. LVM then assigns new letters to the other ones.

It's worth to mention a WPS bug: If you format a volume and use the WPS to copy files without a reboot after that, filenames get 7.3 names. Just reboot in between or don't use the WPS for that.

Hi Pete,

I 've read all your bug reports about that. After all, I suppose you have problems with your hardware, as David wrote, AFAIR. I hope you'll find that soon before you lose any data. I hate to say that, but I myself had too many hardware issues in the past, where I thought first that the software is the culprit. The most recent example is FireFox.
