Programming / Problems with configure
« on: January 28, 2016, 08:38:09 am »
Hi there.

I have a problems with this configure from SDL, I'm working on.
I get the message
Code: [Select]
./configure.lineno: 23670: Syntax error: "fi" unexpected (expecting "then")I don't know why. If I remove the offending code, then the error moves to another part of the script.
So I think the error is somewhere. As I'm no expert in shell programming, I don't know where to look at.
Autoconf is 2.69, automake is 1.14.1-3.

Applications / Re: Arca Noae Package Manager Comments
« on: January 21, 2016, 10:46:37 am »
After I installed the Package Manager and downloaded the needed packages, finally, I could use OO.
BTW, yum/rpm installs a lot more than just some DLLs.
And you do know in detail what yum/rpm did? No, see my first comment about it. And what if something breaks, you know how to solve?
The same way, one would use, if one manages dependencies manually: Searching.

Sorry to say, but it makes you dumb/stupid.
There is really nothing smart about juggling with downloading the correct DLL versions etc. yourself.
E.g., I installed OpenOffice 4 and installed all the needed DLLs. I checked them with PMDLL.
There didn't seem to be any dependencies, which weren't resolved. OO would start and then ... nothing.
After I installed the Package Manager and downloaded the needed packages, finally, I could use OO.
BTW, yum/rpm installs a lot more than just some DLLs.

If you ask me, I'd rather be stupid for letting some tool(!) install the DLLs and porting apps than wasting my time juggling the DLL installs.

Copying the files from the install CD has done it. Case closed.  ;)

I reinstalled the Toolkit, but nothing changed. Can anybody having the correct file send me a copy?

In OpenWatcom, I have the definition, I lifted my "patch" from there, but my OS2TK45\H\ACB.H seems to be some totally different beast. It begins with:
Code: [Select]
/************************* Module Header *******************************\
*                                                                      *
* Module Name: PDPUBLIC.H     (new file for 180062)                    *
*                                                                      *
* Process Dump public interface for DosDumpProcess API                 *
*                                                                      *
* Copyright (c) International Business Machines Corporation 1997       *
************************************************************************
*  Change                                                              *
                            *
*  Activity     Date            BY      Reason                         *
*  --------      ----                   ----------                     *

Ok, I looked again. There is no defintion of P(ACB) in the Toolkit 4.5, I have. It's the one that's included in eCS 2.0.
Has anyone an idea, what's the problem?

Either I'm blind or jEdit doesn't find it, but I couldn't find the definition of (P)ACB. I will look at it again.

The SDL port is outdated and probably has not the libKai audio driver, I wrote ;-)

Programming / Multimedia with GCC
« on: January 11, 2016, 10:17:36 am »
Hi.

I'm building SDL with GCC.
My problem is the typedef PACB (pointer to struct ACB).
I can find no definition in the OS/2 toolkit 4.5, although some multimedia API needs it.
The only definition, I could find, was in a Watcom C header.
My question: Am I overlooking something? Is there some packages (rpm or something else) I need to install?
Or have I to set up a C header file for the definition.

Thanks für the info. I will try this.
So, I installed the Arca Noae Package installer. Lo, and behold, yum/rpm works just fine.

No, I can't. The problem, stated in the original message, is a show stopper.
Is there some work around for that?

Is there any other way to get around this error on an ECS 2.1 installation?
I have the same error message, but I'm in no hurry to install ECS again in a VM  ;)

Article Discussions / Re: [Arca Noae] Checked your disk lately?

Another thought: How many modern OS's have to be booted from CD/DVD/USB/Whatever/Floppy(?) in order to run a chkdsk? Sounds a bit 1980s to me... especially as OS/2 systems seem to have had this capability a long time.
Actually, you always had to boot from some installation/rescue medium for OS X to fix filesystem problems on the boot volume. Since 2011, Apple automatically installs a recovery system alongside the main system to allow for faster boot into the installation/rescue system.
