VBox 6.1 on Windows 10

This time on the 2nd menu, choose "Boot with menu for own values". On the 2nd page, it should show that the system type is a virtual machine.
Chose 'Boot with menu for own values'

The only options shown under System Type are:
- Default system type for modern hardware
- Vintage hardware (no APIC or IOaPIC)

Setup & Installation / Version 5.0.5 - In place upgrade failed again
« on: June 07, 2020, 06:11:41 am »
Just downloaded 5.0.5 and tried to update my existing installation (Virtual Box VM). I did the 'Update previous ArcaOS installation' and got the 'Updating the system' screen. The progress bar showed 'Updating installed system components' and then froze at 5% - this is exactly what happened when I tried with 5.0.4.

OK, I'll wait for 5.0.5.

Thanks

After you agree to the license, on the next screen there should be 4 options with the bottom one being to update a previous ArcaOS install.

OK I changed the boot order (in VB Settings). In short the installer completely wiped my virtual hard disk and did a new install. So I lost all my applications - not an in-place upgrade. Just as well I have a backup. Did I miss an option to do just an upgrade?

I have a backup of my ArcaOS VM so I can easily restore that. But the version I was trying to upgrade was the original of the backup.

>> And to boot an ISO, you need to mount it as a CD/DVD, VBox should by default try to boot the DVD before the hard drive.<<

Are you saying that I need to create a physical DVD ISO (rather than a 'virtual' ISO)?

>>BTW, what video driver are you using?<<
Looking at  Screen in System Setup of my original install it shows Panorama at 1024 x 640 resolution.

Setup & Installation / ArcaOS - in place upgrade - version 5.0.4
« on: June 03, 2020, 05:56:24 am »
Never having done an in-place upgrade I decided to test it out on a Virtual Box VM of ArcaOS. I created a 'virtual' ISO of the downloaded upgrade which showed up as drive S: on my VM. I assume that I then have to do a selective install (because I couldn't find any way to boot from the virtual ISO.)

I go through the various options and get to 'Select the source drive and directory' , choose s:\os2image which takes me through various options and then does the update. Unfortunately I now have a screen resolution of 640 x 480 whereas before the upgrade my resolution was 1024 x 640.  When I go into System Setup and choose Screen there is only the one resolution shown (640 x 480) so I have clearly messed up the install. I'd appreciate some guidance here. Thanks

Thanks Martin. Just to confirm, this version does NOT require me to completely reinstall ArcaOS - that is, it is an in-place upgrade?

Thanks. Like you I had to go back to my 2017 order. I have selected ArcaOS ISO and requested a rebuild. I presume this will give me the latest version including all of the updates listed below. on the web page.

Thanks. I logged into my account - I have a current account - but I can't find where to download the latest OS version. All I get is a list of subscription renewals. ???

Setup & Installation / ArcaOS - Download latest version
« on: June 01, 2020, 04:16:11 am »
I have missed a couple of updates to ArcaOS. Where do I find and download the latest issue?

Also when will it be possible (if it is not already) to update my existing installation with changes without having to completely reinstall ArcaOS?

TIA

Thanks. I do not wish to completely reinstall my set up. As I haven't had any problems with ArcaOS I'll wait for 5.1 and any significant upgrades that come along .

The link should be available under your initial ArcaOS licence.
You should find there a link to request the ArcaOS 5.0.3 build for download. Once it is build, you can download it

Remy

Thanks. I've downloaded the .iso

Now in order to update ArcaOS do I have to totally reinstall it - or will the update selectively install those OS apps which have been updated?

What happens to all my other non-OS  programs - will they effectively get overwritttrn requiring reinstallation?

Thanks

Paul

I have a current Personal Support and Maintenance subscription. Having looked at my account on the Arca Noae website I can't see any link allowing me to download the new 5.0.3 release. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
