Applications / Re: Java applications

About some other Java apps.

I noticed GreenFoot (http://www.greenfoot.org/door) and Alice (http://www.alice.org/index.php) but I was no able to make them run. Not because of any error, I just didn't found the right way to call the .jar.  (both seems to be platform independent, but I don't know).

Regards.

Hi Neil

Sorry, I don't have a way to work SmartGit with eComStation. I had been using git.exe on eCS to upload some source code. (I use smartgit on the Windows partition).

I wrote this quick article of using git and github on eComStation: http://www.edm2.com/index.php/Using_Git_under_eComStation

Hi Andi B.

The page: https://github.com/os2world shows all the repositories under the group "Os2World". The one that gets the code updated shows on the top. But please notice that my goal here was not to activate all the projects, my goal was to have the source code of OS/2 related projects to have more visibility for people that want to start coding, or possible to continue the projects for this platform.

About the timeline, check an active development repository. For example: https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2

You can see activity graphs: https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/graphs
The fork network graph: https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/network
Something called pulse: https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/pulse
And the issues posted: https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/issues?state=open

I'm also still learning github, but I think this may be a good start.

Article Discussions / eCS 2.1 as VirtualBox Guest
« on: September 13, 2013, 09:44:39 pm »
Hi.

I took some time to improve the "VirtualBox Guest" article on the OS2World Wiki.

If someone wants to add something or improve the article let me know. Plus all users registered to OS2World can access the wiki and edit the pages.

Now we need applications that do what the user wants.

How hard it is try to odinize the Google Hangout Plugin for Firefox? I really can not know that since I don't have much experience with Odin. But I think Google Hangout it is very interesting for video conference.

Some open source alternative is QuteCom (http://www.qutecom.org/wiki/QuteCom).

Thanks Alex.

I will check to have the source code current on the GitHub repositories, plus I had also given you access to it.

IMERJ is there, but it don't fit on the main organization page of github, you have to do a search and you will find it.

By the way, AtShell is very cool.

I noticed this article thanks to Esther Schindler post on Slashdot.

It is a good article to read by Andy Lester.

Check it out: http://blog.smartbear.com/open-source/how-to-turn-your-pile-of-code-into-an-open-source-project/

Thanks Dave. I didn't know there was some active proyects on bitbucket.org.

Silvan, I didn't wanted to clone the active netlabs svn projects yet, because the current development is going there. I put some Netlabs projects source code that didn't have a SVN repository, but I don't know if I cloned an active one. Can you give me the list of the active projects that you found that are updated on Netlabs and an old source code is on OS2World GitHub page? just to check it out.

Article Discussions / EDM/2 - September Updates - IBM Publications
« on: September 07, 2013, 03:41:35 pm »
Hi Guys

Do you know any other IBM OS/2 related articles (development or architecture) that was published by IBM but it is not public anymore? (with the exception of any IBM Internal confidential documents)

I can give it a try to request IBM for re-publishing permission.

For example. I'm trying to find some OS/2 workshop materiales, the OS/2 certification book. Any suggestion of what do you know it exists is welcome.

Hi Joop.

Yes, to make a video with the Bamboo the nice thing is trying to show the bamboo & pen at the same time you show the screen. I made a little video about it too, but I was not able to do that, I'm too lazy for video editing.

I uploaded the test.mov video to YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JGlB8wrG8o

uhm.. I'm missing the flash plugin on my eCS VM, but it seems that the video was recognized and runs. But I don't know why it does not run as HTML5 YouTube. (checking on that) (Nevermind, I was out of the HTML5 Trial on YouTube, I enabled it again and worked ok on firefox without the Flahs plugin)

Nice.

I tried it out. "screen_recorder.jar" records the video and save it as a .cap file.  "screen_player.jar" works fine to run the .cap file. test.cap (197KB) (here goes an screenshot).

About converter.
I run it like "java -jar screen_converter.jar test.cap" and it generated "test.mov" (17MB)

OS/2 and eComStation Open Source Software Catalog / Repository

Some told me that it was a waste of time others liked the idea.

I don't know but I have enjoyed uploading all this stuff to GitHub and checking some older OS/2 development projects on hobbes.

I'm still missing more applications, but I hope to keep uploading more.

I think it will be interesting for anybody to fork the projects, improve them a little bit and try to generate their own binaries for any reason at all, learning, continuing a project or just for fun.

If you want to see how to commit or clone a git repository check my little article on EDM/2 - Using Git under eComStation

Applications / Re: Java applications Jedit 5.1.0
« on: August 14, 2013, 12:35:05 am »
Maybe if someone can test "jEdit 5.1.0" on OpenJDK (our same level) on Linux to see if it have the same error. I think with that we will give us some hints if it is a OpenJDK bug or application bug.
