Applications / Which program to use for ripping audio CDs to flac?
« on: August 30, 2015, 11:19:42 am »
Unfortunately jRipper packed by Ronald (rbri.org) does not work here. It seems to do exactly what I need. Simple front end, freedb, ripping into folder. Problem is it only rippes the first track of a CD. After that it hangs. Cancel button does not work too. Seems jRipper could not start the cdda2wav again for the second track and so waits endless. No difference between the java1.41 and java1.6 version.

Does jRipper work for anyone of you?

Which program do you use to rip CDs to flac?

Networking / 3Com 3C905 - driver which works with high IRQs?
« on: March 14, 2015, 11:33:52 am »
The EL90X.OS2 I've with eCS2.2 can not handle IRQ17. Anyone knows if there exist a driver for this card which can work with high IRQs?

In fact I got the driver loading and working with the debug kernel and manually changing registers at the point where the driver traps. But I do not want to patch registers every reboot :)

Setup & Installation / How to get ride of HPFS386
« on: August 24, 2014, 06:24:08 pm »
I've used HPFS386 in the past. But now my boot partition is JFS since a long time and the only HPFS partition is one for maintenance boot.

I was in the impression I only have to change in config.sys -
Code: [Select]
IFS=m:\IBM386FS\HPFS386.IFS /A:*
CALL=m:\OS2\CMD.EXE /Q /C m:\IBM386FS\CACHE386.EXE
to
Code: [Select]
IFS=M:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:2048 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:*

But if I reboot I get strange errors. First in the middle of the screen between other drivers saying something there is not enough memory. Think it's after loading sddhelp.sys. After hitting Enter
Code: [Select]
SYS0613: Not enough memory is available for....and after hitting Enter again a Trap 000e.

Surely HPFS386 cache needs a lot more memory than the 2MB of HPFS. And even with HPFS386 I've >200MB shared memory left. So do not understand the complains about memory.

Any help?

Networking / Injoy logging
« on: July 04, 2014, 09:06:01 pm »
I've a user filter like this -
Code: [Select]
Deny_Pana_TV
Comment = "verhindere alles 192.168.1.199",
Source = "192.168.1.199",
Direction = Outgoing,
        Log-Severity = None,
Log-Control = Disabled
which blocks connections from this device to the internet. But now the Injoy GUI 'Dropped Packets' and 'Rejected Connections' windows are full of log messages from this client. Can I prevent logging output of this rule? 'Log-Control = Disabled' does not help.

I'm glad that Injoy drops packets from this client but as the window is full of these messages the important ones are hard to find now.

Networking / IP connections with 'false' IP address - daytime.exe?
« on: May 17, 2014, 12:15:35 pm »
My Injoy firewall constantly logs IP connections with non existent IP addresses. Moreover the false addresses changes randomly. I think I've iptraced it down once being nntp time requests. But not sure anymore.

Anyone else sees such things? Is it true that the eCS included M:\ECS\SYSTEM\TIMESET\daytime\daytime.exe is the root of such request? It is started automatically with eCS2.1DE here.

The logged IP addresses are something like -
192.30.252.129
192.168.0.1
192.53.103.108
192.150.3.51

My IP net is 192.168.1.x (netmask 255.255.255.0) so these IP addresses should never be routed through. Guess these are UDP packets or something else and only the firewall thinks these are IP addresses. But need help from more experienced users here. Thx.

Internet / Most stable Apache, php, mysql...
« on: February 05, 2014, 04:03:15 pm »
I remember a thread where I think Martin tested different Apache builds from Paul but can not find it anymore. So here's my question what build version and combination of different packages is considered the most stable, without memory leaks....

I want to upgrading my current Apache, php, mysql, squid installation and want to know if others have seen problems or not with the latest what is available at Pauls site.

Another question - is there a current installation package like LAMP or AMPOS2? Or installation instructions for current Apache, php, mysql.... for eCS? I found J├╝rgens instructions http://www.juergen-ulbts.de/content/projects/apache2/basicsetup.de.html (in German) very useful but it's a little bit outdated.

Programming / Compiling KON
« on: January 29, 2014, 01:11:36 pm »
Has someone successfully compiled the sources from github? I tried it once and it seems there are some files missing.

This was a few months ago and I didn't find time to investigate further. So wanted to note my findings here. Maybe someone else has more success.

Setup & Installation / Tweaking eCS for low memory system
« on: January 02, 2014, 02:16:35 pm »
As low memory is no problem with standard hardware for eCS since years I forgot how to tweak OS/2 - eCS for such situations. I've searched a while but did not get very much information except the obvious ones - cache sizes.

What I want to do is to tune eCS for a Pentium like system with 266MHz and 64MB memory. This is a small board which boots eCS from a 16GB CF-Card and works reasonable well. I reduced HPFS cache, disabled CDROM support, remed out all DOS network drivers, disabled JFS... But eCenter still shows about >56MB used and 6MB swapper size after startup.

Any pointer to documentation about appreciated.

Basically what I need is - WPS, and network. Maybe I should deinstall Netbios as TCP/IP is probably enough for me. But does anyone know how much this will lower memory utilization?

Networking / Secure ftp server?
« on: September 16, 2013, 09:16:55 pm »
Is there a secure ftp server for eCS? I'm currently using Peter Moylan's ftp server but this does not support login with SSL / TSL. AFAIK with usual ftp the password is transmitted as plain text. What do you use when you want to access files on your server from outside?
