Hi Dave

No experience with that particular chipset but had some fun with the nForce4/MCP61 chipsets and early acpi releases years back.

However, acpi is now maintained by David at Arca and the situation seems to have improved as the readme for acpi history section shows :-

3.19.10 - David Azarewicz
-------------------------
.
.
.
Removed temporary /NV switch. NVidia systems now work properly. The NVidia
chipset was never actually the problem. It was the BIOS.

If you encounter problems installing ArcaOS try using the acpi.psd /vw parameter in the pre-boot menu.

Setup & Installation / Re: RAM disk and temp folders...what else?

Hi Ben

My config.sys entry is a simple one; "IFS=Y:\IMB386FS\HPFS386.IFS /A:R" where "Y:" is the boot drive and "R" is the RAMDisk.

Is the "Y:\IMB386FS\" above a copy'n'paste typo?

Hi Ben

Have you tried clearing browser cache before a fresh download?

Hi Ben

Strange...

Do you have the Parameter set in the program object properties? It should be

   -debug

Here that setting definitely causes BS_Info.err to be generated in the BS_Info directory. I just ran BS_Info and generated a log so have no idea what could be going wrong on your system. I can only suggest contacting Rolf and reporting problems.

Pete

Hi Ben

The debug log is called BS_Info.err

Re-checking the version I have installed I see that I am using v2.1 beta which Rolf sent me by email. It has a reworked cups search which may resolve the problem you are seeing - but does take a second or several to appear onscreen.

The v2.1 beta does not yet seem to have made it to a release level so I hope Rolf does not mind me posting the beta location www.bausys.ch\files\bs_info_2_1_beta.wpi

I am sure Rolf would appreciate any feedback though.

Hi Ben

That sounds like the problem I saw with an earlier version when using os2ahci.add v2.x

Is there anything displayed on the status bar that may give us a clue?

You could also add the Parameter -debug to the BS-Info object Properties which should create a log called BS_Info.err in the BS-Info directory which may help identify the problem.

Hi Ben

What problem(s) you are having with BS-Info? - and which version is involved?

Hi Ben

Yes, there is a tool to help spot duplicate files amongst other useful things: BS-Info available here http://www.wdsibyl.org/index.php?module=Downloads&func=display&lid=105&lang=en

It may take a few seconds to perform all of its checks when starting but when ready find the "Duplicate files" tab and give it a try. Note it can only check 1 drive at a time though.

Hi Ben

Possibly a silly question: Have you tried dropping dive.dll onto PMdll to see if all files dive.dll uses load OK?

Internet / Re: SeaMonkey Experimental build 3
« on: April 10, 2018, 05:19:26 pm »
Hi Dave

Thanks for the effort but, sadly, I am back using exp2 as I see the same problems with exp3 as David is having.

I also note higher cpu use with exp3.

Another problem I discovered during my brief attempts at using exp3: Addons can be a problem especially NoScript which can cause the following:-

1] Seamonkey fails to start but is in the Process List indicating that it is trying to start - as evidenced by the 4 cores of the cpu taking turns at running a peaked flat line.

2] If Seamonkey does start there is more than a good chance that it will hang if Tools -> Add-ons Manager is selected - again with the cpu cores taking turns at running a peaked flat line.

The only NoScript that installs and does not seem to cause problems is 10.1.7.5 - Sadly this version does not work with Seamonkey; no Preferences button in Add-ons Manager and no NoScript icon anywhere on the browser interface.

Hi Tuure

I do not install DOS/Windows support having no Win3 apps and my few old DOS games run better and with sound in DOSBox so cannot help with win3 sounds.

I do not use Firefox as I prefer Seamonkey. The current Seamonkey runs reasonably well and plays video from most websites without problems. As Seamonkey uses a lot of Firefox browser code I would guess that something is not quite up to date with all the support files needed to run Firefox. I think some of the support files needed to get Seamonkey/Firefox working reasonably well and capable of playing video are from the netlabs-exp repository - Maybe our resident Seamonkey specialist will be able to advise.... There is also a Firefox addon that may help https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/h264ify/

Regarding VirtualBox: Do you have the line loading vboxdrv.sys in the config.sys file?
There may be some help in this discussion https://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,1709.0.html

Which gimp package(s) are you having problems with installing?

Hi Dan

You have to wade through the various included documents to work out how to use DFSee - unless you are Registered in which case you can always email Jan for support.

Hi mark

I think the libcx 0.6.2-1 update was related to latest Seamonkey/Firefox releases.

Hi Dan

The answer is probably because your 16Gb usb stick had not been initialised for use so did not have LVM information on it.

With a new usb drive larger than 2Gb it is necessary to initialise the drive. I use DFSee - http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/ - for the job.

Hi Mark

If you have the vboxdrv.sys line in the wrong place you may experience trouble booting.

I do not have an ArcaOS version of a config.sys file having "sort of" sorted my config.sys into sections. The SET LIBCX setting I simply added to the end of my REM [ Environment Variables ] section where all my "Set" lines live.

Have you tried VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=3072? - not sure if it will make any difference...

Pete
