DVDDAO does it for DVD, maybe for CD, too?

dvddao --aspidriver aspinkk$ -d file:d:\temp\c2.iso scsi:1,1,0

Storage / Re: changing USB volume letter
« on: June 18, 2019, 03:42:26 pm »
You can assign a drive letter without losing data by using Logical Volume Management (Simple) in the setup folder.

I think you can assign "None" and get the drive mounted with the next available letter.

I'm not sure how the assigned letter works for old Warp 4 systems, but I recall that it seems to ignore LVM and just mount the next available drive letter.

@Neil, Was it the SUa1 release you had problems with? It had a bad bug that is fixed in SUa2. The original Pentium M also seems quite stable.

Checking back, yes it was. I'll try SUa2. I don't judge stability quickly, and I doubt any report that does.

Applications / Re: WINOS2 functionality on the Thinkpad X220 or X201i

I have a Thinkpad T540p which runs WinOS2 only after updating ACPI to 3.10 or higher. I understand that ACPI has nothing to do with WinOS2, so I don't understand why that works.

Only a few automated installers fail to support automated installation. Is it really that hard?

I'm finding that the Bitwise Firefox build is quite a bit more stable here. I'm guessing that depends on what web pages we visit. For the pages I visit, Bitwise Firefox lasts about 10x longer than Nightly. Neither one lasts very long.

Are people not using a cmd file to start vlc? Here I use,
Code: [Select]
set BEGINLIBPATH=K:\vlc2\usr\local\lib;%BEGINLIBPATH%
vlc %1 %2 %3
which is located in K:\vlc2\usr\local\bin.

I don't use any cmd file. I do put the vlc lib directory on the LIBPATH entry, and VLC runs fine.

To get sound, I select K Audio interface audio output and DART. To get video under Panorama, I select Video Mode=DIVE.

Programming / Re: Compiling PMMail with GCC 4.9.2

OK, I combined gcc installed by rpm/yum with the rest of the PMMail build environment. It looks promising.

I can supply ilink.exe myself, but is there one in the rpm/yum universe?

Why aren't you installing GCC 4.9.2 with YUM/RPM or ANPM?

I tried installing gcc with yum/rpm. I can compile the example code with that gcc.

But I can't find the environment. How does that copy of gcc find its header files?

I'm starting a new thread about compiling PMMail using GCC 4.9.2.

Programming / Compiling PMMail with GCC 4.9.2
« on: June 03, 2019, 07:42:03 pm »
I'd like to compile PMMail using GCC 4.9.2. Currently I have GCC 3.3.5 and a bunch of tools working.

I had hoped to just drop in GCC 4.9.2 in place of GCC 4.9.2, but somehow my GCC 4.9.2 setup is wrong.

It compiles PMMail just fine until it hits a va_start() macro. I have the same trouble compiling the attached vatest.c

In file included from k:/programs/gcc/include/machine/stdarg.h:2:0,
                 from k:/programs/gcc/include/stdarg.h:2,
                 from vatest.c:1:
vatest.c: In function 'int sum(int, ...)':
vatest.c:18:4: error: '__builtin_stdarg_start' was not declared in this scope
    va_start(ap, num_args);

Those don't look like the right include files to me. Something is wrong, but what?

Multimedia / Re: SYBA USB Stereo Sound Adapter: Good or bad?
« on: May 30, 2019, 10:46:57 pm »
I installed ArcaOS with AN USB 11.17, and USB Audio 227, and this arrangement is working. As Wim predicted, replacing AN USB 12.x with 11.17 was all that is needed for USB Audio 227 to install.

With USB stack 10.227 and USB Audio 10.227, I now have sound on the M720s system. I had to rearrange the Config.Sys since AN USB stack 12.x has a different requirement of the order of USBD.SYS and USBHID.SYS.

The big obstacle was not the SYBA USB Stereo adapter. I believe the limitation was the Startek USB 2.0 PCIe card. It can run a mouse and keyboard, and a bootable USB stick, but not USB audio with AN USB driver. I guess I should try AN USB stack (11 and 12) with USB Audio 10.227 next.

I installed the USB Audio 223 on my laptop, where USB audio had worked before, and the SYBA adapter is working fine. It must be a USB Audio 1.0 compatible device.

But something is stopping it from working on the desktop, a Lenovo M720s that has only USB 3.0 ports. I am using an add-in Startek USB 2.0 PCIe card to provide USB. This seems to work for booting from memory stick, and mouse and keyboard.

But for both USB Audio 223 and USB Audio 226, there is no sound. When I run play.cmd, it does not ever complete. I plan to get 227 and try it. I'll let you know if it works.

I tried installing USBAUD2, but there is no difference. The following command never returns. No sound is emitted, either. This happened sometimes with a bad MMPM2.INI. But I don't understand that file well enough.

Play file=j:\mmos2\sounds\zipper.wav

Multimedia / SYBA USB Stereo Sound Adapter: Good or bad?
« on: May 24, 2019, 12:38:39 am »
I'm trying out the SYBA USB Stereo Sound Adapter.

So far, I'm not getting sound. The package advertises that it uses CMedia CM119. I'm attaching the dump from USBDock. The device is 0D8C:0008

I installed ArcaOS with no sound adapter, then installed the USB Audio driver. This has worked in the past for some other adapter I no longer have.

Should this adapter work?
