WSEB & X3650 -- need help!
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:51:46 am »
A customer sent me a IBM X3650 (7979) Server and wants it configured with WSEB! Is this possible? As far as I can tell the Adaptec AIC-9580W storage controller is not supported by WSEB. Does anybody have any ideas how I can make this work for this customer? Any suggestions would really be appreciated, Thanks!

I have been unsuccessful thus far in getting eCS 2.1 to operate the storage controller.  I asked around a bit some time ago and there is the potential to port the driver from Linux but I do not know of any progress on that front.

I can't offer any help with the Adaptec, but looking at the current offerings, wouldn't a IBM System x3100 M4 (or M3) run eCS pretty easily?

Probably so, Blond Guy!  --- But I don't think my customer is willing to trash 5 servers like this, and buy 5 new ones just for the priviladge of running eCS.  I'm hopeing someone will have a way of making this work. Maybe even trying to port the Linux driver like Andy suggested might be a possibility.
Thanks for you're reply.

Another option I am planning on trying but haven't had the time is running VMWare ESXI  and putting eCS into a container in it.

Currently, I don't believe there are any SAS driver solutions available, but you might want to contact Mensys and see if perhaps they can provide you more details.

I have run eCS 1.2r in a VMWare ESXi container and it works easily.

Hey Andy, fwiw! I've got WSEB working using VBox in SuSE Linux 12.2 (64 bit) UNI works fine but still have a minor problem with W4.
