Cannot create archive
« on: August 23, 2024, 08:13:35 am »
Whenever I boot up, I get the error message that no new archive can be created.
Does anybody know how to fix this error ? I had this in the past but I cannot remember what I did to make that error go away.

Right-click on an empty place of the Desktop, and choose Properties --> Archives tab --> uncheck "Archive Desktop".
Standard it is checked, and 3 generations of archives are kept.

Could it be that you are are running out of free space for a new archive that is larger in size than the one about to be replaced?

I don't have a space problem. However, unchecking and rechecking "Archive Desktop" might do. I'll give it a try.

When it happened here, I increased the number of archives from 3 to 4 and it started working. I think I also had to delete a bad archive as well but I don't remember clearly.

Turning it off and back on again did the trick. Thanks !

Good to hear that toggling the enable was sufficient.

FTR, if all else fails, there's \os2\arcinst.exe. This rebuilds the \os2\archives directory tree and is what the installer uses to initialize \os2\archives the first time.

I find it useful to run archinst a couple of time a year to ensure that the Original Archive (i.e. 0) is in sync with the modifications that have been applied to the files named in \os2\archives\*.key.

Isn't it \os2\arcinst.exe ? (without the 'h')
