Cribbage Hand Score

Scoring a cribbage hand is not difficult, though it is possible to miss points.  Note that there are some differences to the hand scores depending on if the players hand is being scored or the "crib" hand is being scored.  The following is the combinations and the scores possible by them (note for point values, face cards count as 10 points):

Jack (of upcard suit) 1 point
15 points (in any unique combination of cards - 2, 3, 4, 5) 2 points
Flush (all same suit)
- Note: if "crib" hand, all cards including the upcard must be of the same suit.
4 points/5 if upcard same suit also or crib hand
Pair 2 points
Three-of-a-kind 6 points (3 pairs)
Four-of-a-kind 12 points (6 pairs)
Unique Straights (3 cards and over) 3, 4 or 5 points depending on the number of cards.

Score Examples:
- Hand: 7S, 7C, 8S, 9D - upcard 1H = 14 points (2 3 card straights, 1 pair, 3 sets of 15 (7S/8S 7C/8S 7S/7C/1H))
- Hand: 5D, 5S, JS, QD - upcard QS = 15 points (jack of suit, 2 pairs, 6 sets of 15)
- Crib Hand: 6D, 9D, 10D, QD - upcard 5H = 6 points (3 sets of 15 - crib hand needs upcard of suit to count flush)

Other Items:
- Note: it is possible (bad luck) to have a hand that has no points in it.  There is a better chance that the "crib" hand may have no points in it.
- If points are missed, the computer will call you on it and score (for himself) the difference.  This is known as 'Muggins'.
