In the beginning: An OS/2 Vet Remembers

An Anonymous IBM'er or should we say former IBM'er has posted an interesting articles about IBM and it's far from positive when it comes to IBM.

I was there. I was part of a special group inside IBM that was charged with either making a go of OS/2, or killing it. We spent around 900M in a year on various things, including writing part of an entirely new version of OS/2 called Workplace OS (running enough to demo at Comdex one year).

It was all about the profits - not in the long term but NOW. Whatever got in the way of that was OUT. That's why the company is moving slowly but surely towards a nearly 100% consulting model - it's the bigger money, it's the sure money, it's the money that requires the least investment and overhead.Â
