1. Installation OS/2 Warp 4 fails |
|
|
I am trying to install OS/2 Warp 4.0 on a Gigabyte 965P-DS4 mother board with the following setup: Ide 0 Master (SATA) HDD: Seagate 320GB. Ide 0 Slave (SATA) Nec DVD burner Ide 1 Master (SATA) HDD: Seagate 320GB.I use the danidasd.dmd 1.44 I use the dani1s506.add 1.79. These drivers should support this chipset. However during boot of the second installation disk the led of the floppy disk starts blinking as soon as the dani1s506.add is loaded. After that the screen shows to enter the 3 disk but the led is still blinking. After that the screen stops with the message unable to operate you harddisk. I have tried several options for the dani1s506.add and danidasd.dmd but non worked, does any one have a suggestion how to bootup with the warp 4.0 floppies? Attached find the config.sys I used to install. I renamed the danidrivers to the names that IBM uses: ibm1s506.add and os2dasd.dmd. |

Bit confused by your IDE/SATA statements above - are the disks and burner connected to IDE controllers but they are SATA devices?
If "Yes" try changing the burner to be the Master on IDE 1 and the disk the Slave on IDE 0 The Danis506 has been updated to 1.7.10 - I do not know if it will help but it is worth a try. Regards Pete |

| Hi, Looking over your config.sys file, a few things... If you don't have hardware that requires any of the following, then REM it all out. These can cause difficulty on some systems: basedev=btscsi.add basedev=fd16-700.add basedev=fd8xx.add basedev=fd7000ex.add basedev=dpt20xx.add basedev=dac960.add basedev=flashpt.add basedev=ql10os2.add basedev=ql40os2.add basedev=ql510.add Second, try unplugging one of your 2 hard disks, at least for the purpose of the Warp installation. Once Warp is up and running then go ahead and plug the second Seagate back in. Third, what system kernel are you using on the installation disks? I'd suggest the 14.103a. Good luck! |

Bundle is not the problem (you can delete it for booting up and put it back when installation asks again for floppy 0). The problem is that the new kernel needs at least fixpack 13 files around it, so you also have to update every other dll, exe, etc on (all) the floppies you are using to install. What might also help is removing the second HD (and every other piece of hardware not needed for installation) as advised above and/or creating a FAT partition on your 1st HD with an other OS before booting with OS/2. You may also want to replace IBMATAPI.FLT with Daniatapi.flt. Also make sure you DO use the UNCOMPRESSED version of the DANI Ddrivers. |

The Disks I use are SATA disks, the burner is a NEC AD 7170S, which also is an SATA burner. I removed all diskdrives in the system and booted up with only 1 Seagate 320GB harddisk and as slave the SATA burner. This however resulted in the same reaction as before. May be I do need the 1.7.10 version, however where do I get it? Can it also be a BIOS setting I now use legacy IDE mode which is the default setting. I already installed Windows XP on the first disk and Suse Linux 10.1 on the second, used OS/2 Bootmanager from a previous installation to bootup windows and linux, this works fine. Regards, Jan |

I use the kernel that is supplied on the disks of the standard OS/2 installation disks. How do I get kernel 14.103a on it? What do I need to change for this on the floppies? I have one system running warp 4.0 with fixpack 16 can I take files from that system to use them on the floppies? Best regards, Jan |

Since you have an OS/2 already performing well, why do not you use Kadzsol's utility (< http://xenia.sote.hu/~kadzsol/rexx/sajat/updcd.htm >)to make an updated current bootable CD-media? As long as you follow the instructions to make an appropriate file structure that includes fixpaks, your choice of kernel, java, etc., UpdCD will take care of updating an original image of your OS/2 Warp 4. Yes, it will take a few trials and will require that you become familiar with Kadzsol's UpdCD framework but you will be surprised at the outcome. You also have the option of using either Daniela's and or IBM's system drivers to attempt your installation --sometimes the IBM drivers succeed over Daniela's and vice-versa. In the past, these are the files that I have replaced to install OS/2 Warp 4 from floppy: os2cdrom.dmd cdfs.ifs ibm1s506.add os2dasd.dmd ibm1flpy.add ibmatapi.flt ibmidecd.flt Although IBM deprecated the last of those above in favour of ibmatapi.flt (which in your diskette 1 CONFIG.SYS you must add as: basedev=ibmatapi.flt ) the oldie OS/2 installation apparently still requieres: basedev=ibmatapi.flt basedev=ibmidecd.flt Assuming that you are using backup diskette images of your original OS/2 Warp diskette set (always save the original set and work with copies of those, needless to say), you may copy those files listed above from your existing OS/2 installation making room for them by deleting unneeded files existing in your image of oldie diskettes and REMing out those from your diskette 1 CONFIG.SYS Best of luck ! |

Delete all the partitions from the disk and start installation with a clean disk or with a single FAT16 partition on it. (XP's NTFS partition is seen as HPFS by the OS/2 installer!) Forget the kernel update, it will not help (see my previous post). |

I put in an empty 80GB Seagate disk and removed all other disks except the burner which I use for the installation, I still get the same reaction. Maybe I have to use startup options for OS2DASD.DMD (infact ofcourse this is the DANIDASD.DMD), I don't know what is a good starting point of options to begin with. |

The Warper (09 Apr, 2007 15:00): Maybe you just need an updated LVM environment. Or some kind of ACPI support.
I now went back to the original installation diskettes by generating them from the Warp 4.0 CD. I thought this over because I tried to bootup a PC that already contained a running ECS installation, with the disks I had. This also resulted in the led blinking on the floppy drive. After that I created the original disks, I only replaced the ibm1s506.add by the danis506.add and could boot up now after remming out the device=testcfg.sys in config.sys, I could look at the HPFS partition of the second drive that held an earlier install of ECS, hopefully I can do the complete install now. Thank you all for the support! Best regards, Jan |

last updated at 10 Apr, 2007 22:59 (3 times) I could do the install until the installation program of Warp 4.0 started after first reboot, now it asked for the testcfg.sys driver to be installed, however if I install this driver in config.sys I get a trap error. I have looked around on the internet and found out that many people have trouble with this driver during installation. It seems this driver has problems with the latest hardware. Is there any one who knows how to overcome the problem with this driver? I have tried to install warp 4.0 on an other PC that already runned warp 4.0, however this PC also trapped on the testcfg.sys. Any tips regarding this testcfg.sys driver issue will be appreciated.I could reanimate the Ecomstation installation I copied from an existing PC. I am now running Ecomstation with the latest danidasd.dmd and danis506.add driver, I simply remmed out the OS2LVM.DMD driver and booted up from this partition and could run all installed programs. I now have the following setup: Disk 1: bootmanager, windowsxp C:,extended partition E and F, Disk 2: Ecomstation, Linux swap, Linux ext3, Extended partion containing 40GB HPFS and 200GB NTFS Hdrive. All operating systems are running fine now. Still want to install networking support for Ecomstation with the genmac driver. So I have overcome the testcfg.sys issue. However I still would like to know why this driver gives a trap on the system as soon as it is enabled. Best regards and thank you all for the great support, Jan
