Title: Files Uploaded to Hobbes
Post by: DavidG on 2008.12.16, 00:36:18
There has been problems with uploading to Hobbes since they switched to a new server.  One problem has been renaming uploaded files that the person who uploaded them wanted to have deleted. Before, with the old server, one could rename the files(s) adding delete or deleteme to the end of the file name to notify the archiver the file should be deleted.  Here is the response I received.

When moving to an all new server we also had to move to an all new ftp
software.  In doing so we found it also necessary to make hobbes more
secure.

At this point the rename feature still exists, however it is
temporary in that the user only has a few minutes to rename the file.
After that time the user will need to contact archiver@hobbes.nmsu.edu to
have the file removed. Our new ftp server does not allow other options,
either everyone gets all access or no one gets any access.  The compromise
we have found is to permit moves but only for a short period of time.
This permits users the rename ability while also limiting chances of users
running a-renaming/deleting-mok on hobbes.

Also, for those that upload files, remember that system used is case sensitive.  It is not enough to just upload the file.  One must made sure all the text matches between the file name and the txt file that goes with it.  Also, if replacing an earlier file, make sure that the case listed matches the file listed found in the archive.
