Too much free space. The program probably cant address above 2gb. Make a volume smaller than 2gb and install there.

Saijin,  Bojan89 says "any" program if I get it right. I have never experienced that problem except for win-os2 programs where you have to install the "2gbfix". I don't know why you have that problem Bojan89, maybee you should run chkdsk on the problematic volume.

Yes,I think on native OS/2 programs...I use JFS file format and have one partition of 7,50 GB...Installations make problems with space, but programs without installation work correctly...I will check my hard disk, but I think that it doesn't have errors...

Are you trying to install an app that came with the IBM-installer?  That procedure used to cause troubles with greater disk sizes.  There was a patch or a fix for this, but I don't remember which one (and where to find it) right now.  The IBM installer shipped with eCS 1.x wasn't affected by this issue, though, IIRC.

If you are installing directly from CD or DVD, please try to do it copy first to hard disc and try again to install it.

Maybe the program is to old and it try to do a temp folder in the CD.

Good Luck

Bojan89, I have a simple question - what exactly are you trying to do?

You say,

I assume you have eCS running from a partition greater than 6 GB and you are trying to install an additional program.  What is the program?  Where is it to be installed from?

Without a full description of what you are trying to do it is impossible to give you any sort of informed answer.

Ok,I have hard disk of 7.85 GB where I have installed eCS.Now it has 6 GB free space.Big number of programs work correctly, but some installations as installation of PM Word, Excel, Corel DRAW for OS/2 said that I don't have enough space, and I must tryed to install to another partition, but I haven't another partition....

These seem to be rather old apps. When I meet similar problems and when it is possibble to move the installed app to another folder on another (bigger) partition then I install the app somewhere, pack it and archive it on my CDs. Since then, I am "installing" by unpacking.
Sometimes, I install on USB flash disk. Sometimes, my old Zip drive passes. Sometimes, I can install on the system partition (2 GB HPFS, ca 1.5 GB free).

All the programs you mention are derived from win 3.1 and have an installer that wraps at 2 GB so it appears the disk does not have enough space.

As Melf said you need something like '2gbfix' -on hobbes - to allow you to install them.  Once installed they will run without problems other than following the 8-3 file name convention, in fact I have them working on a 37 GB partition.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how 2gbfix will work on a JFS partition - it is from the days before JFS.

Another thing I found installing those programs was that I had to follow DOS conventions for the directories structure.

Other solution will be - copy a big temporary file to that partition so that the remaining space is no more than 2GB. Of course you can use LVM to create another smaller partition, change drive letters, install, copy, change drive letters back... but that's way too much work compared to simply fill the partition with any data during install.

It works well also with JFS

Hi Melf, that is good to know.  Now all we have to do is store that bit of information somewhere safe with all the other snippets of information about OS/2.

2gbfix works well with DOS programs. However, it does not work with old, native OS/2 programs or, IIRC, with "common mode" programs. The solution I have found is to use spacehog ( http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/util/disk/spacehog.zip ) that will create large files to fill up the space above 2GB. This should work for you.
Spacehog does not work if your disk is *really* large (such as a 64GB drive, maximum size for HPFS, that is partially filled) in my experience, but with a 7GB drive there should be no problem.
Just remember, when your old stuff is installed, to delete the files created by spacehog. The programs (PMWord, PMExcel, ...) will still work. They only check for hard disk space during the installation process.
