Title: Raising Funds for the QT4 Port
Post by: warpcafe on 2009.09.04, 19:18:24
Hi there,

well, let's get back to the discussion that we already started some time ago about "why not convert dead bounties in favor of some other bounty?". With "dead" I mean bounties that weren't claimed for quite some time (years!) like my port-of-TrueCrypt bounty.

Of course -like someone else mentioned already- we would have to make sure not to upset someone who perhaps is working on a bounty related piece of code and also ask other sponsors of the bounty to be swapped whether they would agree (not for their share of the money but agree that e.g. another contributor/sponsor is allowed to withdraw his/her share).

So - what can we do? Poll for bounty swaps yes/no? Collect possible bounties? What? :-P

It's not actually the "wasting money" that disturbs me here when I see the unclaimed bounties... it's more a pity to see money that noone "wants" on one hand while there's interesting stuff that needs funds but cannot find it on the other hand.

Cheers,
Thomas

I feel bad for pulling my funds for MTP-SYNC. I see that Nikk just released another build.

I may have you guys put it back to a live bounty later this year, I'm short on funding. College :P

Hi Silvan,

I am desperately trying to get some of my "dead" bounty sponsorings swapped to yours.
No update so far. I will try to send personal mails to the involved people... but this is a situation we haven't been in before (asking to "cancel" a bounty - and what to do with the money...)

With all "organizations", decisions take time. And when it comes to actual money, people get sensible...
So, please be patient. :)

Thanks for all the good work with Qt.
BTW: Is there a chance that we can see a "DLL" or framework that allows using Qt4 GUI elements from rexx? :)
(I would also raise a bounty for that...)

Regards,
Thomas

Well, it also depend on how the bounties are handled.

I.e. if the development did not start yet (nobody officially claimed the bounty), then maybe it would be a good practice not to accept any money, thus avoiding money assigned to "lost" bounties.

On the other hand, this goes against the concept of "stockpiling" the money for making the bounty more appealing for a potential developer.

Thomas,

i know you are trying to do so. and i'm really thankfull for that.

the rexx interface is probably not that easy. please open a ticket at svn.netlabs.org/qt4 so it does not get forget.

The second Beta is out.

There are still some issues, but in general it's working good.

For more infos see http://svn.netlabs.org/qt4

I'm still confident that we finish the project with all your help.

Post by: chennecke on 2009.10.19, 17:10:45
Silvan Scherrer and Dmitry A. Kuminov have released the third beta of the port of the Qt 4 application framework to OS/2 and eComStation, i.e., version 4.5.1 beta 3. The new release comes with Qt Linguist, a tool for easy translation of Qt applications to other languages, and considerable improvements in the areas of font support and process handling. With this, Qt 4 for OS/2 and eComStation is nearing completion.
