Title: Multiple desktops in eCS - HowTo
Post by: StefanZ on 2009.10.04, 21:58:05
Hello everyone.

recently I tried to play with multiple desktops and after some fighting, trials&errors, fighting again and trying everything possible I still did not succeed.

What I was trying to do was basically just copy the standard desktop to other location (dir), but each time the desktop was "incomplete" (things missing, broken links (all of them), empty folders....).

Anybody (successfully) tried this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Stefanz

Search hobbes for wps2rexx.

Using that app will create a series of fldr*.cmd files that describe your Desktop and with a little bit of "script adjusting" (rexx) you will be able to recreate part/all of the Desktop wherever you want - Do check for any needed Drive:\Path changes before running any script though.

I use this technique to "migrate" installed software when installing the latest eCS RC - although there will be some packages that will probably require reinstallation - Lotus SmartSuite and OpenOffice are examples.

Have Fun :-)

Pete
