Title: Orinoco wifi
Post by: zizban on 2009.10.24, 19:14:33
I see here
http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=wifi2

That my Orinoco wifi card is supported. Any tips on how to get it working?

Try the drivers listed on that page, or the xwlan package. Installation instructions should come with either package.

Looks like the driver I want is behind a login/password page. Bummer.

Hi

I'm not very "up" on laptop wireless nics but if using eCS I would expect to find the necessary driver somewhere on the hard drive after installing eCS or on the install CD - if this is the prism driver it definitely is available on my eCS2.0 system in \ibmcom\macs.

I'll look but I don't have eCS 2.0.
Getting this working is for my geek pleasure, not a deal killer it doesn't work.

Try to google for genprism.2.0rc4.zip and you got an adress to try in the second hit! This may work.

At risk of sounding like an idiot, how do I install it?

Hi zizban

Err... Unzip the contents?  ;-)

My best guess -

Unzip contents to \ibmcom\macs

Run MPTS and install driver and protocols required

Reboot

The driver seemed to install and it shows up in MPTS but the card doesn't work. I suspect it's not the right driver or I am a dumbo or something.

Hi zizan

So, you unzipped the package into \ibmcom\macs, ran MPTS to add the card and required protocols and rebooted.

Did you see any message regarding the driver loading during boot? - create an empty text file called ALTF2ON.$$$ in the root of the boot drive or, if you are quick, press ALT-F2 when the system displays OS/2 (or eCS) in the top left of screen as boot starts. I find the file method works nest for me as I always seem to mistime when to press the key combination.

As mentioned previously I have no experience of using this type of nic so no idea on an extra setup steps required. Hopefully someone will have some ideas either here or in the os2 newsgroups - might be an idea to search these forums as the answer could well have been posted in the past.

Regards

Pete

I think this little laptop has bigger issues so I wont push it anymore. I did install eCom on a Dell Inspiron and the genmac driver worked great with my broadcom wireless.
