Title: calendar.xpi trashed Seamonkey -- how to recover?
Post by: klipp on 2010.04.18, 23:00:06
I downloaded a couple of files from the Beta Zone and then saw "calender.xpi" and decided to download it. When I clicked on it a Seamonkey window came up labelled Software Installation and said: A web site is requesting permission to install fileviewer.php from ecomstation site and a warning that malicious software can screw up my computer! Had I been paying attention to what I as doing I would have aborted the install, but I went ahead and clicked install. It then downloaded fileviewer.php and said the Mozilla Calendar had been successfully installed and to restart my application to continue. -- click O.K.!
Now when I, for example, bring up Seamonkey and go to "OS2 World collaborative community" the site comes up O.K. but when I select anything on the os2 & eCs Forum it blows off Seamonkey and returns me to the WPS.
Is there a known way to make this work or better yet uninstall it?
  Thanks for any ideas!

Hi Klipp,

I'm not sure about Seamonkey but in Firefox you go to Tools > Add-ons then select the add-on and click on the uninstall button.  Then restart and it should be gone.

Failing that you could delete it from the extensions dir in the active profile.

Thanks for the response ivan, There is no Tools>Add-ons in Seamonkey, as well, there is no extensions directory! Bringing up Firefox and going to Tools>Add-ons shows only DOM Inspector 1.8.1.22.
Seamonkey shows the calender down in the lower left section alongside IRC Chat but blows off Seamonkey when clicked on. This is on Seamonkey ver 1.1.18

Hey klipp,

I don't know the SeaMonkey version you use, but it might be worth checking out if there is an "add-in manager" or something similar hidden under "Window" (IIRC it's treated as a "special window" like the download-manager).

AFAIK, this can sometimes happen because of using "non-default" themes. But don't take my word for granted. I know that removing extensions can be a pain in the arse... IIRC one _manual_ way is to remove chrome.rdf, but that's very low-level and such things should only be done if you know what you're doing and have experience with it (and a working backup).

Also, have a look here for instance:

(see part in "corrupted interface")

Hi Thomas,  thanks for the site with the Mozilla Tips, it helped me with some other things I wanted to accomplish. I finally got rid of my problem by simply re-installing Seamonkey over the existing install, didn't loose anything, and all is fine now!

Thanks again for the help
