Title: DFSee and MBR backup/recovery
Post by: kim on 2007.06.24, 12:06:35
Quick question if DFSee has the function to make a quick backup of MBR? Reason for asking is that I want to make a backup of the original MBR on a T60 since this holds the code to ThinkVantage button feature.

The MBR and Thinkvantange Predesktop environment can be readded by installing Rescue and Recovery.  This does not readd the partition with the original image but does readd the Predesktop environment so that you can access the original factory image if you haven't removed it.  I have found though that the Predesktop doesn't seem to work with BM installed.

I want to touch as little as possible on this system (easiest is of course getting another disk; but this is the only system I have that uses 2.5" S-ATA disks so the installation is pure for testing); but I've got proper backup images of the service partition so that is easy to recover and I found a little tool called MBR Fix (http://www.sysint.no/nedlasting/mbrfix.htm) that can be used to backup and recover the mbr. In my case I want to use AirBoot (http://www.os2world.com/content/view/5763/2/) instead of either Grub, Lilo or OS2 BM. So found another util to fix this little problem that I had.
