Hi,
I am looking for a syslog server that can handle snmp logging too. Is there a solution for us on eCS?
TIA,
-Todd
You mean that logs both?
Hi Mike,
Yes both, as I understand it and that is what I found so far; Syslog and SNMP are two separate technologies. But I am not an expert and therefore am looking to get some education on each. As I understand it eCS - OS/2 use syslog and many printers switches and other hardware use SNMP. I have both type of equipment that I need to loog information from and then report to an email or SMS and history records on system performance and problems...

I've built net-snmp (http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/) - I can make a package available if you think it will help you.
Cheers,
Paul
Hey Paul,
I think that would be great! I will be busy again for a few weeks, but then I hope to get back to this so I can build my early notification system for my dispersed network printers and firewalls.
I did look at the net-SNMP project in my previous research and did wonder what work would be entailed to port it to eCS. The whole set of tools of net-SNMP appears to be quite feature rich as a whole.
Thank you for being a great supporter of eCS! Without you many of my tasks would be impossible to complete and I would be looking for Win based solutions. Keep up the GREAT work!
With my best!
-Todd
Todd,
Flick me an email or catch me on IRC (irc.freenode.net/#netlabs) and I'll post a .zip of the net-snmp package for you to test.
Cheers,
Paul.
