Hi.
I have to buy a new scanner, but I don't know how to find out if I can use it under OS2. The salesman never know. Can anyone help?
I have looked upon Canon CanoScan 9000F,USB and Canon Canoscan 5600F. Does anyone know if I can use one of these?

Hi Einar,
Apart from possible reply's from people that have tried the more recent scanners, your best bet would probably be to have a look for a second hand scanner on eBay or your local computer market/swap, as well as to checkout Paul Smedleys SANE page at his website for some ideas of what is known to maybe work.

Hi Einar
There is a list of scanners here http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-mfgs-cvs.html with indication of whether the scanner is supported by sane or not.
There is also a page with some information on how to get your scanner supported here http://www.sane-project.org/contrib.html
How are your c programming skills? :-)
Regards
Pete
I can confirm that canoscan LIDE series (all are USB) work great with OS/2 / eCS, installation is very simple and fast. I was have device that isn't on supported list but was work with settings for lower models.

And I can confirm that the LIDE60 does not use the same scanner engine as others in the LIDE series, and it doesn't work with eCS/OS2. Never assume that something works, until somebody can confirm it, for the specific piece of hardware. Even then, there are no guarantees, because a few manufacturers have been known to change chips, but not the device name.
CanoScan LiDE 25 work great up to 800DPI with Tame/2 though it's not listed to be supported.
Paul built a version of Sane that include it in the list.

Must be a case of chaning hardware internals without chaning the product name then. I have a LiDE 60 running with SANE on my eCS 1.2R box for years now. Wors absolutely fine - only PDF creation of multiple pages is not as convenient as under winXP.
