Anyone who has experienced crashes at certain web sites in the font matching code with Firefox 6 or newer, this seems to be the fix.
Thanks to Leonard for finding this.

Thanks for sharing, it worked!

Thank you very much for sharing.
I used to have that kind of crashed with firefox 8.0.1
here it is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJXug6SiltI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJXug6SiltI)
I had been trying it for a while setting 'gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled' to False and the browser it is not crashing on the same sourceforge site I was having that problem.
Good workarround !!! Thanks again for letting us know.
I haven't logged on in a looong time, but I just had to say Thank You!
That killed those @#$%^!!! crashes. Once the disappearing cursor is fixed I will be a happy camper.

I guess you have tried this?
* Mouse Pointer Issues
If the mouse pointer disappears when starting the app, you can use
"SET MOZ_ACCELERATED=1" to override automatic detection of how your
video driver displays the pointer. If it flickers when scrolling a
page, you may want to try "SET MOZ_ACCELERATED=2".

Those fixes are for issues with video drivers and how they implemement or don't a hardware mouse cursor.
The problem that Daniel mentions is a focus problem in the code. There's also another focus problem where you can't input anything into the URL bar. For both the workaround is clicking the desktop or a different window.
Ok, thanks for clarification. I have noted the problem with the adressfield, so I stick to FF8.01
