The fift. .. .
There seems to be more in this category since the EEE PC http://eeepc.asus.com (http://eeepc.asus.com) and OLP http://www.laptop.org (http://www.laptop.org) came out. There is suppose to be one from Everex called Cloudbook. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/umpc/everex-targeting-the-eee-pc-with-the-new-cloudbook-332160.php (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/umpc/everex-targeting-the-eee-pc-with-the-new-cloudbook-332160.php) There is one from Fujitsu. http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/productoverview.do?type=TB&pgid=Tablets (http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/productoverview.do?type=TB&pgid=Tablets) I have no doubt that there will be more to come.
I think Packard Bell has re-branded the Everex Cloudbook, I saw it somewhere. Im liking the cloudbook better than the EEEpc so far. Liking the VIA processor @ higher clock, liking the RAM, and liking how the speakers arent vertical next to the screen.

I found the site for it. I had to chose UK instead of USA since it was not listed. :-[

It does not come with a cd drive but it is sold separately. It seems to have bigger keys than the EEE PC. One could install eCS from an external cd(?).
I hope so. I tried an EEEpc here at my school, and as cool as it was, it simply could not be for me. I have monkey hands and I need a bigger keyboard. Both my hands would barely fit side-by-side on they keypad.
I will try to see if I could use an USB keyboard with the EEE PC. I will try USB Geek to see what they and others have.

Looks comptaible, mostly reasonable price, VIA C7m processor for great AES encryption support and ultra low-power consumption.
Shame the awesome! price of 279$ is only with the stupid software services to their Linux distro for 2 years @ 14.99/month. If you dont do that, the lappy alone is 479$, which still is not terrible. Hardware looks like its mostly supported. Are the VIA processors supported? They should be...
It would be more in the 'hardware' section. It is a nice notebook computer and the prices is very competitive for the size of notebook computer. ;D
I think the VIA cpu is supported. I have some mini-itx boards with VIA cpus that I plan to use. They might be a little obsolete since I had them for awhile. When I do get around to buidling my mini-itx projects, I plan to use eCS on them. 8)
" * A 8.9-inch display and Windows XP: Confirming that the machine at CeBit will come to market in April, the new Eee PC will have a 8.9-inch screen and a higher 1024 x 600 resolution A 8GB SSD will be available running Windows XP. A 12GB or 20GB SSD model will be available with Xandros.
* Hard Drives: Asus is considering giving customers a choice between their current offering of solid state drives and regular hard drives in the future.
* Intel's Diamondville: Shen revealed that the low-cost notebook platform will adopt Intel's Diamondville processor in Q2 rather than VIA's mobile computing platform.
* More Colors and Stylish Looks: In May or June, Asus will release "very stylish" versions of the Eee PC. Shen says they will have a New York city sleekness.

A week or so ago, representatives of VIA Technologies, Inc. visited us to show off their OpenBook reference design. VIA designed the mini-notebook to demonstrate to manufacturers what is possible in an ultra-portable computer. You can't buy the OpenBook directly from VIA, but you'll see it or concepts in the OpenBook in products from other manufacturers soon. The OpenBook is 9.5" wide by 6.9" deep and 1.1" to 1.4" high. It weighs about 2.2 pounds. The display measures 8.9" and features a resolution of 1024x600. All images courtesy VIA Technologies, Inc.

It is a design study but could be a sign of what is to come in mini-notebook computers. 8)
The HP Mini-Note advertises a list of OS's which includes FreeDOS, but when you try to buy, only two models include SUSE Desktop Linux (which you pay for), and the rest have Windows. OK, so let's "configure" so it is custom, oh then your only choice is Windows. :P

It is odd that they list FreeDOS but have it preloaded or as an option for configuration. :(

Hey Saijin_Naib,
Since when you have become like this and all the time I thought that I found your posts interesting reading. It seems that I will have to re-read the book - How To Win Friends And Influence People" to see what I have missed.
BTW, a little bit of laughing and entertainment is good for the mind, body and soul. Yes, objectively and (sometimes amusing) purposefully "hilarious" and entertaining. ;D ::) ;D
What's the distraction. ??? While we wait for eComStation to arrive.
Best regards,

I jest, I jest. But, as I have said before in exasperation [others as well], your posts can be very difficult to follow. Modzilla seems to follow this trend, but instead of many references chooses to write in large, barely punctuated blocks with either a dialect or some other difference in expression that can make him hard to understand. It's interesting to see that neither of you two have trouble understanding the other, but I personally, have a bit of difficulty with both, hence the comment about a crypto exercise.
I want one of these, I'm leaning more toward the G Netbook because it's VIA powered and I want to support them, but I know I'll be sorely disappointed by the performance of the C7-M. I really want a VIA Nano based netbook to come along, so I can snatch it up and be trendy and green!

Hi Saijin_Naib,
Sorry to have not let you in on the fact that I flunked High-School so I was not able to make it to college doorsteps; also, my parents could not have afforded an house with a garage. Anyway, I did manage to understand a few things about material science and technology and if this subject is the "crypto exercise" that you refer to between "Modzilla" and myself then this is understandable.
BTW, the OS/2 World Foundation could not have been better endowed without someone that matches the leadership of Kim Haverblad, and, we just can't wait to battle with Sweden's Sweco in Micro-Computing using eComStation inter alia

I think the 'crypto exercise' refers to speaking in code? It would be like two spies speaking in a crypto or coded manor so that only the recepient understands what is being said? I could be wrong. It would not be the first time. ;D

Ghee Whiz BigWarpGuy! I often keep wondering what is it that
the Electric-Arc, the Electro-Slag Refining (ESR) Process; and, the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) all have in common. How about substituting the word "spies" for "intelligence" (other Intelligent life forms, Quarks...). ;D

Thanks for the link; and, I must say that it was enjoyable reading this:
QuoteThe rugged EliteBook 2530p is built with a brushed anodized aluminum exterior casing combined with a magnesium alloy chassis that meets the requirements of several military-standard durability tests for extreme temperature, dust, and humidity, HP said.
It was quite noticeable that your trademark "it would be neat to run eCS on this eCS." ;D was was missing. And, (hint, hint...) do you think that HP too (just like ModZilla) was all along part of the 'crypto exercise' and actually at the helm. 8)
BTW, it would be cool for NASA to make a comparison between the computing power that was available aboard the stricken Apollo 13 and that with which the "EliteBook 2530p" now comes. 8)
I might consider giving one of these gadgets a run for its money and especially if they are
OS/2-eCS and
SmartFor Two ready. ;D
Again, thanks for the info.
Best regards.

"It would be neat to see if eCS runs on it". ;D There are stands that one could put an UMPC in a car or the Smart Fortwo but one might encounter a 'computing while driving law'. ;D In NJ, there is a law that only allows hand free phones to be used while driving. Perhaps one could create a 'hands free' computer? ??? ;D
I think it would be interesting to see NASA compare what they used on the moon flights as compared to what the UMPC can do now. It would also be interesting to see a comparison of the computers NASA used then to that being used by NASA now. 8)

The "bottom line" will have to be something like this:
Hello Houston - We Have A ("Housing, Food, Financial Markets, Energy, Military et al) Problem (s)"!!! How much OS/2-eCS computing power do we need to be "Well On Our Way To Recovery" at escape velocity with the best-of-breed computer scientists and "UMPCs" aboard? ;D 8) ;D
Scenarios like these would be sooooo....... cool. ???
Besides, I keep saying that (hint, hint...) "
VOYAGER" or "
CASSINI" (if "Serenity Systems" cannot deliver) may have to be the way - "To Boldly Go"! 8)
Additionally, Is there enough room for an "UMPC aboard these toys:

The UMPC segment seems to be growing. This is why the 'week of mini notebooks' seems to be lasting alot longer. ;D

Hey BigWarpGuy,
It is not that I do not trust Serenity Systems/Mensys... but, as they say - "A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Bushes" So, apart from some "IBM Home-Cooking" we are apt to settle for the simple "
Powered by OS/2" rather than "Powered by eGS" ("eGoneStation"). ;D ::) ;D
BTW, What about the "icing-on-the-cake": "
The Productivity Applications". ???
Kindest regards,
SAB
As they say 'a bird in the hand can be a very messy thing'. ;D

Certainly, this must be a misnomer as who in the world does not know how much "c-l-e-a-n-i-n-g_u-p" ;D that OS/2 "needed" to make us Go Boldly at Warp Speed. 8)

Star Trek Enterprise had 'Warp' drive and worked quite well. :) Perhaps a future Enterprise will have 'eCS' drive? ;D

Can't see how we can get up to "
'eCS' drive'" when there is no access to the "
Enterprise Warp Source-Codes"!!! Besides, beings (INTELIANS) from another planet may have succeeded in removing "
Oliver Mark" and "
Kim Cheung" (assumed
Members of The Enterprise Warp Crew) completely from our midst. This is perhaps what is known as alien abduction. :(
In any case, let's hope the journey continue to be lengthy and prosperous. :-X

SAB

"San Francisco (CA) – Intel's Atom processor is making its way into ruggedized notebooks and at the Intel Developer Forum Panasonic was showing off its upcoming handheld Toughbook using the power-saving processor. The Toughbook CF-U1 has a 5.6-inch screen, 1024 MB of DDR2 RAM and a 16/32 GB solid state drive. Like all Toughbooks, this magnesium-alloyed unit is rugged and can withstand a 4-foot drop and tremendous abuse. Oh and if you're ever caught in the dark, it even has a built-in flashlight."
The price puts it out of my price range. :(

thx BWG for the link and info, ya the 2800dollar pricetag is prohib for me too...I always liked...http://review.zdnet.com/laptops/twinhead-durabook-d13ry/4505-3121_16-32486098.html twinhead... but its no Mobil Internet Device, :o ie halfway between my ipaq and my compaq lap, niether which I can drop without major major screen and HDD damage which happens from time to time while travelling all over....ooops!
On the rugged laptop blog a guy spends his saturday aftternoon with his kids, powerwashing the lap is also on the agenda, but even though I think this is a great site to see/read about/review new gadgetry, I wonder why the guy bothered to demo this: http://ruggednotebooksblog.wordpress.com/category/new-products/ esp since this is an election year, with more people than ever paying attention to that. Oh, right, he fiqured while he would be giving the kids a lesson on life, he'd give the old lap a mud shampoo. ??? ??? ???

More computers to try eCS on. 8) It would be neat to able to purchase different computers just to try eCS on them. The spirit is willing but the wallet is lacking. ;D

"Round Rock (TX) – Dell today announced its first mini-notebook that squarely aims for a market that has been created by products such as the OLPC or Acer's EeePC. It comes in a stylish package with an 8.9" screen and Windows and Linux options. But while Dell has decides to join its rivals on the mini-notebook train, it found that calling this device a "netbook" would not be a good idea. "

If OS/2-eCS "can run on it" I just might go shopping at "Dell" very soon. ;D 8)
Thanks for the reminder. :)
