Title: web filtering for w32 clients...
Post by: NNYITGuy on 2008.03.04, 17:42:02
I have built a DNS server system that employs VPC/2 w/ XPPROSP2 and SimpleDNS and a special HOSTS file that block unwanted sites from the w32 clients by resolving to 127.0.0.1 for the unwanted URLs.  I want to do this natively on eCS.  Can someone point me in the right direction.

:FYI:
I have nearly 50 endpoint computers that communicate over several IPSec tunnels to my internal private DNS system for resolving all internet traffic.  I built this to prevent unwated abuse from endpoint computer users.  It works well! I can sell this service to commercial clients! But, I am using VPC/2 (Great Product from innotek!) and XPPROSP2.

Thank you!

Check out www.webpowercontrol.com. I've been told that the solution shown there is an eCS based solution for web filtering for all types of clients (Windows, eCS etc). I don't know if it's got to market yet, or if it ever will...

Moby.

Hi

Why not just use BIND v9.4.2 and internal zone files with wildcards pointing to 127.0.0.1 or to an internal webserver with a "not allowed to go there" page :-)

Available from Pauls website at http://smedley.info/os2ports/
or http://www.os2site.com/sw/internet/dns/index.html
