I'm running OS/2 on a Pentium 2 and I'm trying to get on line but I can't figure out how to tell it to get online with Lan instead of a modem please help
Hi,
Have you tried the suggestions in the thread:
http://www.os2world.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,776.msg4654/topicseen,1/
also, did you make sure you installed the TCP/IP stuff?
i extracted all the TCP/IP updates to a cd but i dont know how to install i extracted with loaddskf the help file says i need "service" to install the updates. what is it and how do i get it Help Help
I know this has been covered in a few posts, but here it is again:
1. Grab all the update install files and extract them into a directory on to your hard disk (or CD Rom)
2. Grab the IBM Service facility from:
ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/rsu/csf144.zip
3. Unzip the CSF facility to its own directory. This can be a directory on the same CD Rom that you put the files from step 1 and 2. (for example, extract it to
c:\service
4. Fire up OS/2, open a command prompt, switch to the directory where your CSF stuff is, so for example, if it is on Drive C, open a command prompt and do a:
cd \service
5. From that directory, type:
service c:\service\csf c:\fixpak
Where of course, the C: is substituted for the drive letter you're running from, and the \fixpak is substituted for the directory path of the fixpak you want to install
If it is working, within a short period of time you'll see an install screen. Select the fixpak you want to install and click "install".
--- If this does not work to complete the install (sometimes the "easy install" does not work), start the installer again, click on the fixpak you want to install, put a check box in the "advanced" box, then hit install. This will start up the older but more reliable IBM service facility in another window. In this window, select all the fixpaks that show up on the list, then hit "Service".
--Note, if you are installing a TCP/IP fixpak, or one of the MPTS updates, don't try to put anything in the "archive" directory box. It will likely give you trouble if you do.
--Also note, this is the same technique you will need to use to install Fixpak 40 for OS/2 Warp Connect 3 - and Fixpak 40 is a must to get Warp 3 working properly on more recent equipment. But, for Fixpak 40, make sure you create on your hard disk an archive directory (something like c:\archive) and enter that directory path in the box where it lets you enter an archive directory.
After the fixpak is installed, it should prompt you to restart your computer. Don't forget this step. Also, Fixpak 40 will generally take the computer through 2 restarts, but the MPTS and TCP/IP updates generally only take 1 restart after those individual updates have been installed. Also, don't try and install more then 1 fixpak at a time. Install one, do the needed reboots, then go to the next.
Hope this helps.
