Title: Remember everything -- history of eComStation
Post by: saborion2 on 2008.03.21, 23:46:53
A very good article; but, instead of "Remember everything -- history of eComStation" perhaps this should have been "Remember everything -- History of OS/2 and eComStation"  ;) .

So, where is "Icing For The Cake - Lotus 1-2-3... for OS/2 and eComStation" to make the below mentioned international project go down nicely:

"RUSAL to mull hydropower-refinery, smelter studies also on the cards"
"By Nicosia Smith"
"Thursday, February 8th 2007"

Link to the article being discussed can be found here:

Unfortunately, it is currently only available in Russian...

A (probably poor) English translation can be gotten via Google here:
http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fru.ecomstation.ru%2Fshowarticle.php%3Fid%3D163&langpair=ru%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8

And by visiting Google's translate page, one can select other languages to translate from Russian into.

Hi RobertM!

You wrote inter alia: "Unfortunately, it is currently only available in Russian..."

Fortunately I use the "SeaMonkey" Web Browser and using the translation feature this Browser comes integrated with... translating from Russian to English is a "breeze..."  ;)

Anyway, one can easily find some other very interesting articles on OS/2 through a simple Google "Search"!

Here are two links below:

"In the Beginning DOS - 1981"

http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/OS2History.html

http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/OS2Warp.html

The question is: When are we going to see some much needed "enhancements" to the OS/2 Platform? ???

Best regards.

That is quite the question isn't it? I wish the APIs and source could be given to someone who would do something with it, instead of just IBM holding onto it.

Hmmm... time for me to check out SeaMonkey again...

...though I did read the article (via Google Translate)  ;)

That's always the question... even of other OSs...  :(

Even more thought provoking is: "I wish the APIs and source could be given to someone who would do something with it, instead of just IBM holding onto it". The thing is: what has really happened to all of the IBM Programmers that worked on OS/2? (Let's hope that they have not all died out... :( ) After all of this time - Do they still have to honor an Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with IBM...?  8) . Another thing is: Were these Programmers the "smartest" folks that could have been found on the planet; and, if IBM disappears as a company in the near future! Then, what happens to (becomes of) the OS/2 Source-Codes? What good is its use to the world's societies according to Confucius' Philosophy.  ???  Since Microsoft's Chicago, Serenity Systems International's eComStation and NetLab's EXPLORER are taking so long to arrive... maybe, it is time to begin exploratory work on CASSINI.?    ;)  ;D  :)
