Hi all,
I'm new here so be gentle. Last year I bought a new system, (my old 300Mhz PII Slot 1 just wasn't doing it for me!) that had Vista pre-installed. (don't even go there) Wiped after 4 days and installed "Ubuntu".
My question is... Can I get my original WARP 4.0 CD installed or am I wasting my time?
Really miss OS2 GUI...
System Specs:
CPU: as above
RAM: 2GB DDR2
HD: Samsung 500GB
Video: nVidia 8400GS (onboard)
Audio: onboard
Floppy: None
USB: Multiple
Oh well I guess I could always buy eComStation 2.0 RC5 but that would take the fun out of having a keyboard. ;)
Any feedback warmly appreciated!

Hi,
Your first problem will be lack of a floppy drive... though there is a way to make a bootable OS/2 CD (but it may not be for the faint of heart).
Your second problem (theoretically) is you probably have an nForce chipset, and may need to update the IDE driver (requires changing the one on the FDD, and changing SETCOPYFROMFLOPPY=0 to =1).
Your third problem (theoretically) is that you probably have a SATA HDD - using the step above will resolve that issue.
Your next problem *may* be the memory installed in the system... Warp 4 will run on that much (or more) but probably requires being patched to do so (latest fixpacks will resolve that). To avoid that, drop the amount of memory in the system to something drastically less. You may find it's either 64MB or 256MB depending on the hardware (I've had no problems installing Warp 4 on an IBM PII 300 with 384MB...)... or you may find no problems at all (unlikely though).
Your final problems will be you will need to update drivers for sound, networking and video - this can be addressed after installation by downloading the drivers from another machine, burning them to a CD and then installing them.
But yes, theoretically, it can be done. And yes, I would wait for eCS 2.0 instead... ;D

Currently investigating that possibility, thanks.

Just another thought... Possible to install from USB Flash Drive?

Hi Saijin_Naib
Thanks for that info. Will have a look tonight after work... along with everything else I haven't done. ;D

If i recall correctly, you have to image an install to the flash drive or load a small linux distro to do all the management and file transfer from the booted Linux flash drive. Something to that effect.
