Title: making os2 apm 2.0 aware?
Post by: ModZilla on 2008.10.10, 17:04:46
is there an easy way to make os2 warp server advanced to meeting the APM 2 standard apart from the ACPI compliant BIOS? This would be a driver[or equal to APM from Pheonix or?] that updates the system idle, tray icon for time et al and manages all of that for you on a P4 based system ;)?  i DO understand that most mobos today and for many yrs have been ACPI compliant but this came with windoze XP sps and on mobos having certain chipsets and bios combos factory OEM but this does not help those using OS2 installs any more than grub helps install multiple oses not on a native partition which has been properly validated for HPFS. So the question remains who let the dogs out? Is there a link to APM for OS2 installs so I can insure that the system calls are timed with the bios clock?

You would need to use ACPI that comes with eCS 2.0. What what do you want to use APM 2.0 for ?
Throttle the CPU ? Make he machine fall a sleep ?

forget reasons why, it is something to do with PXE like pre-boot, but its an old issue for old mobos, I'd rather move on...here:

Redefining the benchmarks against which performance is measured
----------------------------------------------------------------

New POWER7™ processor-based systems represent a true leap forward to more intelligent systems that minimize complexity, automate processes, and reduce energy consumption, downtime and other operational costs. On a smarter planet these are the only benchmarks that matter.

Featuring an innovative multi-core, 45 nanometer design, running at speeds of over 4.1 GHz, with up to 8-cores per socket, and four threads per core, POWER7 systems combined with IBM systems software, middleware and storage deliver unprecedented performance for both transactional ...

this is where we are headed, forget AIX, reviving OS2 running on linux and all of that, its about datastreams and the security thereof, not hardware, God, we as small bit users can hardly keep up with the junk you have to buy just to use Microsoft newest blunder "OS7" in oh hi heaven or is it more 7/11 slurpee promo, soon all you fools will be controlled by the governement using the very machines you subscribe to, regardless of your core ...the core safety of your ID should be of utmost importance, however we seem to be loosing that battle in keeping up with the thrust to greater and greater optimization of mobil devices and computing using multi core machines with multi threads per core, things that an OS2 Revival could never ever be expected to keep up with or actually do despite the rumor in corporate, as the costs are too high.... :-\
