Title: eCS v1.2R - Need to install OS on a +512GB drive...
Post by: NNYITGuy on 2009.06.02, 02:17:27
Hi,

Question about +512GB drives on v1.2R. Can we boot from +512GB? Or do we need to only have it as a secondary drive for data volumes?

My small form factor chassis only has enough room to handle a single hard disk comfortably without over heating.  I really want to use a 2TB drive but, I am starting with a 750GB for initial testing.

Please help...

Todd

Let us know how it works out. It says you can't in the IBM DASD readme, but I read somewhere that it works anyway.

Hi Blonde Guy,

Yes, I heard it works too... But not like I want it to.  I heard in a post by Roderick in early January 2009 that it will work for a mix of eCS and MS Vista.  So I am lead to believe that the eCS still only sees the up to 512GB and Vista is on the rest.  So that really does not help me.  I am using VMs of VirtualPC/2 and a mobile Samba server and a recovery partition for recovery of NTFS and FAT32 drives for tech services for clients.  So really I am hoping for 1+TB in a small portable chassis...

Thanks and I will keep posted on what I find...

CU,
Todd

I haven't installed to a 1TB drive, but I am booted off one.  Instead of installing, I zipped my current installation and unzipped onto the new drive.  Works fine and all 1TB is available.

This is on a box that has ONLY OS/2 installed :)

Cheers,

Paul.
