Hi,
just read this here about the upcoming (starting this february) next Lenovo generation.
http://www.ubook.at/hardware/modelle-lenovo/details-lenovo/
The problems here will be:
- even new WLAN (Intel 6300)
- maybe forced to use AHCI (No comaptibiliy mode)
- New Grafik Hardware
Yes , I know:
- there are other brands around
- one could keep going on with the current hardware (if you are albe/want to make/ want to live with the modifications/restrections already given) or just buy second hand
but how long will this last and how will this effect the idea of "attracting new users"...
Unfortunately eComStation 2.0GA is still not there and as far as I have seen there are no informations about a release date. What I fear is the fact that, if it takes another half or year to release eComStation 2 it will be uselesse for a lot of users, because there will be no way to install it on modern mobil hardware.
Thats realy a pitty!
I remember the days Warp 4 arrived - the press wrote something like: to fast - to early - because it was released after a very short beta phase just to keep in time with the new Windows NT 4. What do we have to state for eComStation: To slow - to late?
I know - a lot of people are sick about these kind of discussions, I remeber the discussion we had last year last june, BUT: I think the end of the story is close at hand. What I think is: Release eCS NOW - if it takes another 9 or 12 months it will be to late.
Or should we - I - better stop discussing eCS 2.0?

It does need to arrive, but even if it does it won't matter for me. It won't work on my target hardware :C We lack AHCI support and installing over USB is still tricky. Not to mention that installing with more than 4gb of RAM in place can lead to issues still.
I really hope they get this stuff ironed out soon... I'd also like to see display driver support for widescreen on VIA hardware seeing as VIA have their driver source code available but I doubt it will ever happen :\

Installing from a USB CD ROM works. But sometimes it seems the BIOS is a bit whacky and/or OS2CSM that loads the disc images from CD onto the ramdrive to boot eComStation. But so far I have seen CD ROm read sector errors of OS2CSM from Veit Kannegieser. And as a clear warning, when OS2CSM is loading (unpacking the disk images) its *not* yet running OS/2.
Second where are problems with more then 4 GB of ram ? So far it seems eCS 2.0 silver release addresses this issue. A lot of systems with 4 GB of RAM or more would trap with previous versions. That we can't use more then 4GB of ram is a different story.
AHCI developer will start working on an AHCI driver in june or july again. He first has to wrap another project.
This driver is for past eCS 2.0 BTW.
And you should here some more news coming out about Panorama and the performance of it.

Roderick, I believe the issue I had over USB was that it would not finish the install. It would just sit and hang.
For my desktop with ACHI/8gb of RAM, the installer just wouldn't find the CD once OS/2 started booting.
What more news about Panorama? Will it support widescreen resolutions on adapters other than ATI/Intel? I use Nvidia/VIA exclusively here :(
I am excited for its release, but my hopes are not high for getting it working on my netbook nor my new desktop.
