Title: Zip Program
Post by: craigm on 2010.06.15, 23:16:07
I installed Object Desktop 2.0 on my computer with a full install. Afterward everything was working perfectly except the zip files would not unzip anymore correctly. This is because OD2 installed its own zip compression. I uninstalled it and now eCS cannot open any zip file, anyone know how to get the default zip files back in that came with eCS, or if not, anyone recommend a good unzip program, possibly with RAR unzipping? Thanks!

Hi craigm

The default eCS "unzipper" is \ecs\bin\arcview.exe

There should be a corresponding Program Object: \DESKTOP\PROGRAMS\UTILITIES\Archive Viewer.

Check that the Properties of Archive Viewer, Association  tab has *.ZIP *.*.ZIP *.*.*.ZIP *.*.*.*.ZIP in the "Current names:" section.

Hope that helps

Pete

You need to use the modified *.dll to get the ObjectDesktop archivers to work.

Nothing under OS/2 can compare with it.

You may want to try Desktop Wizard

http://www.os2notes.com/os2dwizard.html

The primary goal of Desktop Wizard is to make the OS/2 user more productive by adding new items to the pop up menus of files, folders and the Desktop and it adds excellent zip/unzip integration to the desktop.

Unzip and ZIP files

The most useful and natural feature is the unzip menu.  Clicking this entry causes the contents of the zip file to be placed in a new subdirectory of the main unzip folder that you specify. The name of this new subdirectory is the same as the name of the zip file, but without the .zip at the end. This makes it easy to unzip any zip file - Desktop Wizard does all the rest, even opening the related directories, if so desired. It can also create a shadow on desktop for easy access.

Arcview can use rar also, eg http://www.ecomstation.it/ecsoft2/prog.php?progid=830&name=RAR&sys=os2+ecomstation.

Otherwise I've for a long time used 7zip under Odin. It'll have its graphic Odin oddities, but works splendid, and do just "all" archiving types.

Word to what Melf said. 7zip is just fantastic. The ONLY program I know of that one-ups 7zip is DragonUnpacker but that is mainly for game stuff.

ArcView is a simple tool, but I find it simple at the expense of actually being useful. I've been assured by Alex that new features/formats will be added down the line, but I wrote that email about two years ago at this point.

Where can I get this modified .dll?

Another possibility is eZip by Frank Wochatz:

http://www.subsys.de/eZIP/

Very simple, but useful (Zip and RAR archives).

Hello Ben,

Thomas

I cannot find the original archive so I pieced it together from my OD directory.

It looks complete; let me know if it isn't.

It was created by Rick Walsh.

                    OD2-zip-fix.Zip (http://"http://www.sf-w.net/Files/OD2-zip-fix.Zip")

Good luck with it.

Winrar works perfectly under INNOWIN, only no extended attributes.

Just drop in on the Acrobat 5.1 program icon to install it.
