Title: Raspberry Pi and eCS?
Post by: BigWarpGuy on 2012.05.20, 02:12:22
Here is the Raspberry Pi. Could eComStation run on it? (from another post about another board).

Raspberry Pi.

Now it has a camera attachment.

There is also a magazine for it called MagPi. :)  http://www.themagpi.com/ (http://www.themagpi.com/)

Hi Tommy

This device runs with an ARM processor architecture. OS/2 is not designed to run under that architecture, it will only run on intel x86. I think that to be able to run OS/2-eCS under ARM processor we will need the full OS/2 source code (which we don't have) and recompile it with that architecture on mind.

He's joking, Isnt' he ? BTW, I recently ordered a similar piece of hardware. While waiting for the delivery I start to make myself familiar with Linux. After all these years with OS/2 I guess it's time for me to try something different and this type of stuff looks quite exciting...

There is a better alternative to RPI... VIA APC http://liliputing.com/2012/05/via-apc-a-49-android-computer-with-an-arm11-cpu.html

It runs android, but a friend of mine is sure 100% that it can run ARM Linux , has
512MB anyway, not the anaemic 256MB of the Pi

....running Qemu on the raspberry can be an alternative.. with emulation :)

I don't have one to try it.

I assume it will be painfully slow....
I have a RPI, I tested some linux distros and found them _slow_ as the CPU is not powerful enough
In fact  I got it *just* to install RISCOS (the alpha version runs quite smooth)

I have a RPI

Interresting. I guess I will be able to order mine later this week. But they estimate 14 weeks for delivery :-\  However, I already ordered a CuBox (http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/cubox), which is a bit more powerful and will arrive here sooner. I'm aware that there are still a lot of software problems with that one, but that is just part of the fun... Can't wait to start playing with this little toy ;D

I ordered it on 1st of March, delivered end of May!
The CuBox is a nice alternative to RPi, 1GB of RAM is a plus as the RPi has 256MB, but on most distros only the 190MB are available on boot, as the RAM is shared with the GPU,

It is amazing how small computers can be. I guess they were thinking inside the box. :) Thanks for the link.
