ImageEditor is a good free image editing program written in java.
You can see it and download it here: http://www.jhlabs.com/ie/.
I had the need for an image editing software capable of working with PNG images, with layers, and working in eCS. Pixel unfortunately is very buggy and way behind the major platforms. The other image editing programs aren't capable of working with PNG images or are very simple and don't support layers.
So I went looking for Java packages and found ImageEditor which unfortuntely required java 1.5. I sent a message to its author, and after a few hours he had removed java 1.5 dependencies and uploaded a new package compatible with our limited choice of JREs!!!
If you like the package please send your thanks to the author.

Wow, good job on that, and give a thanks out to that developer for us :D

Hey all,
On behalf of myself - and us all as a group, I sent him the following email:
Hi Jerry,
In keeping up on the OS/2 and eComStation news at www.os2world.com, I ran into a post from Cristiano Guadagnino stating he'd contacted you regarding it's Java 1.5 dependencies, which he said you promptly removed in a few hours, thus making your excellent work available to eComStation users as well!
I just wanted to thank you very much for your efforts, and especially for your efforts in revising the code so it would work under eComStation - both on my own behalf, and on the behalf of other eComStation users who are also posting in our forums about their appreciation of your efforts!
Much thanks!!!

Thanks to you too Chris!

Thank you, I'm happy to see the program is appreciated.
However you should really thank Jerry (the author), I really did nothing more than sending an email. He already wanted to remove the 1.5 dependencies, but probably I gave him motivation to do so.
Bye
Cris

Kind Regards

Well, I've used it with InnoTek Java - and though I would love to test it on GCJ, I dont have it :(
Anyone using GCJ, your input would be appreciated.

I can do a short test with GC Java tomorrow evening (mental note to self...add an appointment to the Treo calendar). ;)

This seems odd, moderator. Although I will deffer the answer to your question to my fellow OS/2er (since he already has made a mental note to himself), for someone like you who purportedly uses OS/2 in SMP hardware not to have GCD's native Java for OS/2 implementation. Unless, of course, you are using Innotek's version in Uni mode.

Well, as of now, I run nothing Java on the machine, except the occasional tcpcfg2 which is defaulted (like the rest of the system) to IBM's Java 1.3.1 - so no worries in that respect. If or when I need Java 142 on that machine, it'll be GCD's if still available.
::) odd moderator ;)

I tried the image editor with Golden Code Java 1.4.1 and it works.
I did get some out of memory exceptions but that's normal (the parameter "-Xmx256M" should help).

Hallo Juegen,
thanks for the test.
Any difference between the native and the "odin" port version, prerformance etc. ?
Kind Regards
Rainer

So, you're making a note to make a note? Heheh.
A sure sign that we are living in the Technotronic Era, ala Zbigniew Brzezinski's "Between Two Ages".
Now, say that name with a mouthful of crackers... ::)

Hello Rainer!
I did a test with GC only so I can't tell you which might be better.
Generally GC seems to be better...at least with the applications I use.
The latest addition is Subsonic which has problems with Innotek Java (see Subsonic Thread at the Multimedia section).
