Title: JRE 1.5.0_07 under eCs???
Post by: sXwamp on 2008.02.29, 14:41:55
Has anyone tried this out, or have any other apps running with java 1.5.  Seems like this should have created a little more buzz.

Maybe people are waiting for the real deal,, meaning a real port of JDK. In particular it is not very exiting to have a Win32 JDK working under OS/2, there are lots of things that will never work and others that you will have to try one by one and most people don't want to waste time trying out software to see if it works or not.

Just my thoughts

Well, if it were 1.6, then I think there'll be more excitement. But it's good that 1.5 seems to work with ODIN.

Hi

Yes, I have had a bash at java1.5

Sadly I do not have many java1.5 apps to test with but have downloaded and installed Phex V3. something that requires java1.5 and that seems to be working fine the few time that I have used it.

I have tried several apps that I already have working with java142, JDiskReport and Limewire amongst them, and have not experienced any problems.

I did have ar5os2.exe hang when shutting Phex once - but that happens occasionally when shutting OO115 for Windows running via ar5os2.exe

Guess I ought to try and find a few more java1.5 apps to test rather than proclaim the merits of something that probably will not work for all java1.5 apps due to bits missing/outdated in the Innowin environment.

As others have pointed out a real java1.5 - or, even, 1.6 - for eCS (OS/2) would be really great: in the meantime there is a chance the occasional java app that requires 1.5 could run in eCS(OS/2) - we will only find out by trying :-)

Regards

Pete
