about easiness:. libtorrent wasn't easy at all, as it needs boost as a req. and boost is a very large and complex biest.
but of course everything needed for qBittorrent is on netlabs svn. And qBittorrent till 2.9.x builds out of the box, as all changes are in qBittorrent source tree. Version 3.0 will come in a while, as i have not that much time to try it right now.

Silvan

just a small note on libtorrent. as it's needed for qBittorrent it's already ported.
see http://svn.netlabs.org/ports
i could easily create a dll of libtorrent, but then someone still would need to do the rest.

What/Where is the latest Firefox for eCS. The Mozilla site lists Windows, Linux, MAC Android, no eCS.
eCS 2.1 installs Firefox 3.5.3
But I'm having lots of hangs with this version.

I have a few questions, and probably more later. For now, I would appreciate some directions in where to find modern software. I found the web site called Hobbes and searched the categories that I need, but this computer seems to already have the same versions. A lot of the software I saw dates back to the mid 90's. Can you provide a link to an up to date web site?

Since XWP exists, that's not such a great feature anymore. Open-sourcing these packages
is exactly 10 years late.
I'm glad that Martin reached out and was able to obtain source code to OS/2 programs and it doesn't matter how old the programs are as someone somewhere will find them useful. Remember, someone may not actually use the program itself but read the source to learn more about how to program for OS/2. There's more benefits to open source programs than simply overlapping one of your favorite programs.
I think your statement is narrow-minded and over-generalized. It also speaks nothing of Martin's efforts to help out the OS/2 community at large and not your over-inflated sense of what's good and what's not good for the OS/2 community.

This is a rexx script to configure mplayer, note that you have to unpack mplayer (to %PROGRAMS%\Mplayer ) and the codecs (to %PROGRAMS%\Mplayer\Codecs ) to make this script work all the way as there's no check that the files exist.
I have left out the part to make changes to config.sys, you have to do that by hand if you want or modify the script. If you modify the script, please post it here so other people can see it as well.
Note that the code hasn't been tested much in it present state. Use with caution!!!
Please do post corrections if you see something that you think is wrong or can be changed.

Off topic: Would an IBM xseries server like this make a good desktop computer?
The reason I ask is that I have seen a lot of these going for a good price on ebay.
So far, I am thoroughly impressed with this machine. If you've got WSeB (or the patience to install the SMP stuff on top of Warp Merlin Convenience Pack), then I'd say yes - with one caveat - to get decent video speeds requires running SNAP - which will limit the resolution to 1024x768. Using GenGRADD unaccelerated from the WSeB installation will "unlock" the 1280x1024 resolution, but provide horrendous video performance at any resolution.
Keep in mind though, they are not small machines - though only 2U high, they are very long - about 28" long and full rack width.
Oh, and of course, with over a dozen fans, they aren't exactly quiet. They aren't TOO noisy if the room temperature is where it should be (about 70 degrees or less) - but if the room gets warm, they get VERY loud (as all the fans spin up to faster speeds based on the temperature).
Upgrade parts are relatively cheap (such as 2nd CPUs and VRMs for the models that came with only one) - except for the SCSI hard drives. I definitely suggest going full U320 - and 15K if possible.
Now, on to another note: I couldn't get eCS v2.1 to properly install on the machine - trapped during booting the installation a few times (resources.sys) and seemed intermittent in if/when it would do that. I needed this one up and running, so went with WSeB on it, but have a matching spare that I will be trying eCS v2.1 on again so I can provide Mensys with some bug reports or more information.

I have Rsync down to Drag&Drop on a LAN setup, no more complex setups !
So, I figure why not use Rsync.net for off-site backups. So I setup OpenSSH and
get it working, but a course Rsync doesn't work with SSH for OS/2 (it works with
OpenSuse 12.1.

Hi! I am new here, but I have lurked for a while, I hope I am putting this in the right place
My current computer system is getting old and I am looking to build a new one. I have used eComStation 2.1 for a while, (with a few minor hardware problems) on my current system (dual-booting with WinXP).
Buy supported hardware check here, trust me this will save you from many headache or fights on forum post :)
http://en.ecomstation.ru/hardware.php
This is an easy question to answer once you have all the right hardware (for desktops).
1) Buy a new desktop system with Win 7 for your Office requirement.
2) Buy a SSD drive install the drive in first position (Win 7 drive will now be in second position).
3) Install eCS to the SSD drive
3) Use Airboot - WIN 7 HAS NO PROBLEMS BOOTING FROM SECOND POSITION, I just downloaded Win 8 and will report the results in a week or so.
4) In Windows, start Storage manager and remove the Drive letter for the eCS partition.
5) Ivan is correct about Win 7 being picky, but if you use a second drive no problems and is the recommended solution.
Here is some examples:

I you need any help email me - www.os2notes.com

Yes, USB will be hit or miss for eComStation.
However, there should never be a question about a keyboard or mouse working in a operating system these days (use PS/2 hardware).
I just bought a IBM model M keyboard from 1994 (18 years old and will probably work another 12 yrs).
USE PS/2 FOR KEYBOARDS & MIC3 OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOLVED BEFORE THE 21 CENTURY.
NOT ONLY THAT BUT WHAT ELSE DOES ECS USE USB FOR THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.
