my company quit ecs last year because of ancient java, adobe reader, flash, etc. our network engineer, a former forum member and financial contributor, warned that these must have programs were more important than acpi, etc. and was flamed for it.

linux really isn't much more practical than os/2 with openSUSE being the best for an out of the box windows replacement. we tested it for a month. not practical. a computer is merely a tool. while i agree that os/2 is the most elegent operating system in the world, it is now useless and expensive.

we replaced 24 os/2 engineering work stations mostly with Vista. we run ecs in virtual pc in the accounting department for on line banking. not a single crash or shell freeze, we're glad we dumped os/2 and aren't looking back.

we are sad to have been forced off os/2; but, we are a business and serenity isn't about keeping os/2 practical. we absolutely wish os/2 users well.

very very impressive!!!

how about a write up about what it took to get windows 7 running!

version of VBox? i only remember commandline versions of VBox on os/2.

does windows 7 get sound and usb support? does anyone know what the oldest intel processor it will run on?

dougb makes a great point. our users accounts are members of administrator as well as "debugger". i don't know how it got set to debugger! the workstations also use the os/2 system's domain name in the "workgroup" name box.

do hard drive shares on "ibmpeers" work, if you have any??

yes they have to match. they must also be in caps on the xp machine. printing works fine here though it was tricky to setup. however you seem to know the score. did you turn on lmannounce? is your "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" set to "send lm & ntlm responses?

first, scan your system to be sure file: VMadditions.iso is available and its location.

2nd, start your virtualized os/2 system.

3rd, click "cd" under title bar. then select "capture iso image"

a dialog default dialog box location opens. it should show the additions iso. if not, use the box control to find the file in the location your scan found it.

4th, double click on file name box will close. check mounting by clicking "cd" under title bar. previously greyed "release cd" will allow the release of the iso.

5th, from os/2 desktop, then system, then drives, find and open cdrom drive object. in the os2 folder is "os2inst.exe". double click and follow directions. this will give you higher resolutions, folder integration, etc.

good luck!

use e.exe to edit ibmlan.ini

would have loved to; but our subscription ran out. corporate decided that repeatedly paying the subscription cost for a product that may not see light of day as well as spending our company resources to beta test it to be obscene. good luck.

progress.

the actual problem involves the password. i can create a non password protected account on the Warp Server that works great with vista!!!!!!!!!!!!! our technicians never have had password protected user accounts here.

hell who cares about securing sony dvd service manuals or toshiba lcd tv manuals, plamsa etc.?

network printer works great.

next test.  virtual pc on vista! will need an eCS machine to administer the server at our two locations and one in accounting. no money matters on windows!!!

i went from dos five to os/2 2.x in 1992. i've used windows vista ultimate only three months straight recently. you know it is really really nice to have things simply work. i can't believe the multimedia  i've been missing.

el vato will appreciate the platonic out of the cave notion! this light is bright.

very funny actually.

we have 24 workstation clients in our network. we're in the electronics industry. one manufacturer went to autodesk for the service manuals instead of PDF. another, this is the one we can't work around, started using flash 9 as a portal application for documents, bulletins, and parts account.

i've been concerned for sometime that adobe reader elements would be combined with flash thus creating a proprietary platform of sorts. serenity systems is useless.

so the original question stands does anyone know how to log onto shares from a vista client?

Networking / vista to WSEB logon how to??
2008.10.23, 09:15:54
xp is easy to get working. in vista, i can see the server in the network folder. i can't logon to it. vista appears to send the machine name appended to the user name (ie: machine\userid). any ideas??

we would like to keep our os/2 servers to save several thousand dollars. our two dozen clients can't stay on ecs any longer due to flash 9. we've been live testing xp and vista. ecs runs well and easily installs in microsoft virtual pc. we only need ecs in a virtual machine in the accounting department since we don't trust windows to manage money with.

thank you!!!!!

yes; it was interesting to read the article written by esther schindler. she interviewed me once for a sniff davis article years ago!

may the fix work fine and last a long time.

Well, it seems that the plug-in used to import RSS feed strips of a bit too much information, such as the source link. I know we have had this little problem earlier and then the issue was how the RSS-feed was generated on the source site. But, I'll look into to it and fix it; since your example here is kind of really useless; even as RSS teaser...

thanks for the explaination. if you check most of the software news bits they have no links. my example? take your pick. test your site. don't blame me for being the messenger. if you can't fix it; oh, well! i will waste less of my time.

Each of t. .. .

where is the citation for your source so i can see the article? in fact why bother with the software news section since i don't ever find a link to the quoted article.
