Update

Cause I know you're all waiting with bated breath

I now have firefox installed and working

the error seems to be related to the TCPIP_43_2334 package, when I selected not to install it, everything else installed fine, and seems to be working ok

And the OS2MT yahoo group has sprung back to life as well, so I got a lot of help from the Author of the program

Thanks all OS2MT rocks as a program, and I wouldn't have known about it without your help

Ok I'm back

I have discovered if I close the problematic OS2MT install as soon as it starts, netscape gets a little further and i can close it, (however on reboot they both come back)

The system is still sluggish so i get the top command installed and ran it 10 minutes later it came up

and it is showing opera is hogging 99.7% of the CPU time

ok

pkill 44

has killed it

now the system seems to to be working quickly again

now we reboot, and the OS2MT install thingie starts then fails, close that and It seems to all be at normal speed, although the opera browser no longer work

Thanks Guys

Is there a way using the inbuilt tools of OS/2, as it is phenomanally slow, as in it can take 10 minutes from me pressing the menu button till the menu appears, Rebooting is one of the things i have tried, but everytime i reboot netscape tries to open and promptly hangs, so i am thinking trying to install anything is probably going to be nigh on impossible, i am also half way through a failed upgrade using OS2MT, which i can stop, but also starts up oin the reboot

I was looking at doing a reinstall, however as my CD appears to be no longer readable, that option appears to be out (although i am going to try the CD in an old 4X CD player and see if it works), I am just annoyed as i purged all my back-ups a week ago to make room for music

Hi all

I am having issues with netscape navigator 4.something in my os/2 virtual machine

When i boot up it automatically opens and hangs, its status bar is normally saying something like contacting Host.netscape and it never completely loads

I have tried

Selecting netscape from the window list and selecting close
Pressing the close button in the top right of the netscape window
typing Kill -9 in to the console (Yeah OK it was a guess)
Kicking the computer

I have heard mention of a "top" command, but i can't find any info on it, so anyhelp would be appreciated

Hi all i'm back

Ok I have updated to the latest version of OS2MT, run the auto update script it downloads everything fine

However i cannot get the install to complete it keeps hanging

When it reboots it hangs after the blue OS/2 splash screen with this error
Quote
Route:command failed: File exists
Press enter to continue,

I press enter and it carries on it's merry way

A dos prompt comes up and lies race across it telling me various things are being unshrunk or exploded they all go fine without any errors then I get the following

Quoteexploding: C:/OS2MTALL/install/cid/00_OBUPD/900/./tcpip/install/VPN/srip.exe
  exploding: C:/OS2MTALL/install/cid/00_OBUPD/900/./tcpip/install/VPN/srip.ico

  exploding: C:/OS2MTALL/install/cid/00_OBUPD/900/./tcpip/install/VPN/sslrctc.dll
unshrinking: C:/OS2MTALL/install/cid/00_OBUPD/900/./tcpip/install/VPN/syslevel.vpn

And thats about where i am stumped, I was going to post this at the OS2MT yahoo group, but it doesn't seem to be getting any visits, either that or no-one i having problems

OK

I have Warp 4 it has had Fixpak 15 and devicedriver pack 2 applied, I now need to upgrade/update my TCP/IP and MPTS so I will be able to use Firefox and other Mozilla based products as opera 5.1 (the only browser I can get to work) is a bit old

Mozilla Minimum requirements

Quote# MPTS version 5.3 or higher
# TCP/IP version 4.1 or higher

Thanks in advance

edit should have added

I have read a bit on the warpupdate site, but that has left me more confused as I am unsure of the version of mpts I have (tcp/ip appears to be version 4)
#9
Any idea on how I upgrade tcp/ip and mpts or at least find out the version of the ones
i have

--------------------------------------
Ok I am asking the above in a new thread

#10
Ok i just installed Opera 5.something and I am able to surf the net

but the colours seem very limited, Is that normal

I have looked at firefox but it seems I may need to upgrade my tcp/ip and mpts before installing it, how do i found out which versions i have

Quote from: AndiSo if dhcp works, you should see your ip-address if you type in 'ifconfig lan0'.
Is 192.168.1.1 1 the address of your router?
if i do an ifconfig lan0'

I get
lan0: flags=bc63<UP, BROADCAST, NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,BRIDGE,SNAP>
         inet 192.168.1.2 netmask xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255

192.168.1.1 is the address of my gateway

(1) IIRC, domain name, PC name and user name of the VPC must be the same as the corresponding names in the host PC. Are they?
(2) The emulated network card in the VPC is Intel 2104x/2114x. Install with this card and use DHCP.
I am runnig eCS in a VPC on winblows XP (my apologies, it's a must in my work) and I have internet access from the VPC.

I don't think i ever bothered to set up a domain name on the host system and as for changing the network card, surely if i can ping sites the network card emulation must be working

Also I should say I have while trying to resolve this problem installed fixpak 15, should i also try installing the device driver pack
And the host machine is a windows 2000 machine

Back again, i found a tutorial on setting up networking in os/2 here which i sort of followed although i am using dhcp but I am still getting the same result, the only difference is that I am not getting a "network is unreachable" error on boot up

route -fh
arp -f
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
REM ifconfig lan0
REM ifconfig lan1
REM ifconfig lan2
REM ifconfig lan3
REM ifconfig lan4
REM ifconfig lan5
REM ifconfig lan6
REM ifconfig lan7
dhcpstrt -i lan0
REM ifconfig s|o
route add default 192.168.1.1 1 > null
route add net 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 1 netmask 255.255.255.0 > null
ipgate off

If it helps
#13
Ok I have selected the nic of the host system

and i am using dhcp

I seem to be able to ping sites
eg google
but I can't get the browser to work

route -fh
arp -f
REM ifconfig lan0
REM ifconfig lan1
REM ifconfig lan2
REM ifconfig lan3
REM ifconfig lan4
REM ifconfig lan5
REM ifconfig lan6
REM ifconfig lan7
dhcpstrt -i lan0
REM ifconfig s|o
route add net 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 1 netmask 255.255.255.0 > null
ipgate off

---edit--------
seems i can't ping the host, but i can ping the gateway and the rest of the net

Hello all
Ok

I have warp 4 running in VirtualPC, it seems to run fine, although i will have to tweak the display a little to pretty it up

The problem is that I cannot seem to figure how to get the networking Internet side running,

The "Configure TCP/IP" application is completely unintuitive

Is there a guide to how to configure it, as I am not getting anywhere

what I do know

I know the address of my gateway and the subnet mask, but beyond that it is not going well

Anyhelp or pointers towards guides would be appreciated

---------edit------------
An update of sorts
In virtual PC I changed the network connection from nvidia nforce blabla (which i am pretty sure OS/2 has never heard of) to Shared, simply because I think after reading the help it may be better
and on os/2 boot-up i get the following error
SIOCADDRT: NETWORK UNREACHABLE

is that an improvement?
