As far as VIOTBL.DCP is concerned, send me a mail at gerzhinATemailDOTcz. It does not matter what you write into it, I will use the email address and send you the file. I cannot attach the file to a private message and I am not sure whether I can post it here. Installation: VIOTBL.DCP is in \OS2 . Rename it (so that you can return if it does not solve your problem) and copy the W4 viotbl to the directory. You can do it while running eCS. Restart.
As to dosbox, my experience is that dosbox is s l o w . . . ... Moreover, with ATI cards, you can experience bad colors.

Anyway, I haven't seen problems with a DOS session with ATI cards. Maybe, it's not a VIOTBL problem.

What is the email address?

Thanks for the replies. I occasionally build retro gaming boxes and was experimenting with my box before I install eCS 2.1 on a customer build. I seem to recall that Warp had a better DOS or might I say more configurable. Normally, I would build them with PCDOS and occasionally Win98se or 95.

Anyway, I will try the VIOTBL.DCP thing, sounds like a possible fix. Where do I find that? Not getting that error message. Is it easy to replace or install? As far as my current setup. I just changed the hardware from the Foxconn board in my signature to a Tyan (S2865G2NR) Socket 939 board / AMD Opteron 185 / 4gb DDR 400 RAM / ATIX800 PCIe / Sata II SSD / WD 160gb Sata Drive for data and software repository. Everything works great from the clean install, no updates etc. I have not got that far yet, however, I know the latest ACPI works on it but I have not installed it yet. SO it is the original installation files and the only issue is the DOS window. It has a blinking cursor with no drive showing, can't type anything in it so I just close out using the X. Incredible performance and speed with eCS 2.1.

I am using a ATI X800 PCIe with SNAP 3.1. I will try the latest ACPI and see if that fixes it. I will try tonight and follow up.

I was going to go but the wife got a new job and someone has to watch the grandbabies. I am totally bummed. I went many years ago and it was great.  I am glad I didn't buy the expensive airline tickets, one day later and that would have been a waste. :(

I use to use an Aptiva m2144 - M50. I bought it at Radio Shack and it came with a dual boot system of Windows 95 and OS/2 Warp3 but I upgraded to Warp 4. I still have it packed away somewhere and it still works or at least it did. I also have an old IBM Intellistation with Warp4 that was preloaded, packed away. I remember the days of trucking that desktop (Aptiva) to my OS/2 user group at Stardock's headquarters (Farmington Hills, MI). I was cool, I wore a pocket protector, had a mullet,  and drank Tab. Those were the good old days. I have so many old parts. I have also been looking for my OS/2 magazines, I know I have those articles another poster is looking for. I think they are in the attic at my other home in Detroit. Just have not had the time.  I spent 4 or 5 hours on Saturday (current home 2 hours away) looking for them, found things I thought I had lost :D My wife says I am a tech hoarder.

Hardware / Re: LAN Driver not working
2012.06.23, 16:58:56
Thanks Ivan and Doug. Found it  ;D. That was exactly what I was looking for. Soon as I typed mpts I was good to go. They needed to be configured.

I feel like an idiot, eventually I found it was right under hardware manager  :-[. I have become so accustomed to other OS's that the simplicity of eCS alludes me somewhat. I am not used to an OS doing what I tell it to do.  I have so much to catch up on and learn from my Warp days. Too big of a lapse between IBM dropping OS/2 and eCS.

Thanks for the replies.

The new drivers did not solve the issue.

I ran out of time last night to check LANTRAN.LOG.

QuoteSecond, have you given each instance of the driver a separate 'Slot/Device Identifier'?

How might that be done? I guess I can check the help file. Is that done through the hardware manager?

Hardware / LAN Driver not working
2012.06.21, 16:14:14
I am putting together a file server with eCS 2.1. I am not getting a internet connection. Install went very smooth. Everything appears to be stable and responsive except for the LAN. The default driver for the install is an Intel Pro1000 Mac driver. The system specs are as follows...

Motherboard: Super Micro X8SIL-O with 2x IntelĀ® 82574L Gigabit Ethernet Controllers on-board.
http://www.supermicro.com/xeon_3400/Motherboard/X8SIL.cfm?IPMI=N

RAM: 4GB (2x2) Crucial DDR3-1333 ECC CT25672BA1339
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148400&Tpk=CT25672BA1339

CPU: Intel Pentium G6950
http://ark.intel.com/products/43230/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G6950-(3M-Cache-2_80-GHz)

Should I be using a different LAN Driver?

Thanks in advance.  :)

That is Great! Funny and thought provoking. Love it Ben ;D

The way I understand it is if IBM wanted to release the OS/2 source code it would be unlawful for them to do so. My understanding is that they are not the sole owners of every part OS/2. OS/2 started as a joint project between IBM and Microsoft; because OS/2 contains code that belongs to both parties, IBM would have to convince Microsoft to also agree to the release. Microsoft would never do this.

With that being said, I am very happy with eCS and grateful for the advances it has made. I am also hopeful that future releases will run on more modern hardware; specifically wireless, video cards, and stable multicore use.

.... complete Off Topic.

I just get into the Lenovo site to see the different Laptop and Desktop models, since I wasn't visiting in a long time.

So I as an exercise I tried to configure the most expensive Laptop (without or with the basic software possible) with all the hardware stuff that can be possible to configure.

So, for the moment the winner is the Lenovo ThinkPad W701ds (with discrete graphic) with all the hardware stuff, the price is USD $6,909.00.

  • Intel Core i7-920XM Processor Extreme Edition (8M Cache, 2.00 GHz)
  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800M 128-core CUDA parallel computing processor 1GB (dedicated)
  • 16 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (4 DIMM)
  • Ultranav + Number Pad + Fingerprint Reader + Pantone Color Sensor + WACOM Digitizer w/ Stylus
  • Camera, 2.0 MP
  • Dual 128GB RAID Enabled Solid State Hard Drives, Serial ATA
  • Compact Flash (PCIe) + Express Card(34mm)
  • 9 cell Li-Ion Battery
  • Bluetooth w/ antenna
  • Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250

I think all eCS user should get this machine and set it as the default for eComstation.
haha.. just kidding.

So, is there any other laptop configuration (Lenovo or not) that can rise up this ? (without software)

Heck, I can't even get it (eCS) to boot from a non UEFI BIOS and Intel 55 chip-set. LOL

Reference from slashdot.org

An anonymous reader writes "AMD has publicly released the open-source code to the Radeon HD 7000 series 'Southern Islands' graphics cards for Linux users. This allows users of AMD's latest-generation of Radeon graphics cards to use the open-source Linux driver rather than Catalyst, plus there's also early support for AMD's next-generation Fusion APUs."

Also

"This code drop comes just one day after Intel began publishing its Haswell graphics code."

That's good news I suppose... as we are still at ATI X800 series :-[

Hardware / TRAP d Intel DH55PJ
2012.03.17, 17:11:49
I am looking into finding the latest hardware for eCS2.1. My current build is fine but I am considering building eCS PC's. I got a trap d.
System Specs... Intel DH55PJ / Intel Pentium G6951 / 4GB DDR3-1333 / Intel 320 SSD

Trap d right out of gate. I tried a few settings in the BIOS like single core mode, ACHI, Legacy, Compatible. Boots Linux fine.
I think the issue is the CPU as it is one that Intel released as a software CPU upgrade. The upgrade would unlock additional cache. I do not have any i3. 5 or 7's (LGA1156) lying around to swap.
I created a ticket. Any suggestions?
