Well, I downloaded the CD image again and this time when I connected the ISO to virtual PC it worked so the first download must have been corrupt.

I have been doing some testing on Virtual PC pointing the ISO image from VPC with a standard install,  a Combo install with the IBM Boot Manager and a migration.

With RC6 I had some problems because the boot manager seemed to be corrupted on that release making my PC unbootable, however I was able to fix it.  Now with the GA I see there is a boot manager migration which worked great.  So a combo install with the IBM boot manager works fine.

The migration from 1.2 to 2.0 worked fine too.  I did have some things that did not migrate like LSwithcer and an old ECS clock, but I was able to copy the LSwithcer back and it worked fine and I did not need the old clock.

So, now I am ready to install on the empty partition I have been saving for so many years but for me it was worth the wait.  The Samba works great.  The OOO works great.

I do wish there was a current version of flash though.

When running the smartguide on CD 2 I get this error message:

SYS0191: S:\GUIDE\sguide.exe cannot be run in an OS/2 Session.

Also many of the readme files on the 2nd cd seem to be empty.  Some of the stuff does install if its done one at a time but its not as convenient.

Is there a problem with this CD?

Thanks

The install of the OS went well.  Open Office installed just fine too.

On Disk 2 the smart guide would not start and many of the installs would not start.  It seems like it might be something like GCC library or something.  Has anyone had this problem?

I was able to mount and copy data from a Windows Vista machine now which I was not able to do before.

I sent an email last night asking about the download and I received an email with the download info.

Now I am about to start the install !!!

This isn't normal behavior for OS/2 or eComStation.  One think to check is how much physical ram you have and how much is assigned to a virtual machine.  Sounds like your machine might be swapping.  I have run into this if I run one or more virtual machines and exceed the physical ram on the machine.  I typically dont install updates to OS/2 or eCS unless there is a specific need to.  I have somtimes experienced problems after installing an update similar to what you are experiencing.

I am running VPC for OS/2 V 5.1 on a pc with 512 MB ram on it.  I can run 1-2 Virtual Machines on it just fine.  I have run Linux, Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, as well as OS/2 2.1, 3.0, 4.0 and eComstation 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0 Beta 2.  All worked well.

You might want to try 5.1 rather than 5.2 (actually, I didnt know there was a 5.2 except the windows version by connectix).  Also try without additions and with additions on your guest pc's to see if you ca isolate the problem.

One more tip.  On any Windows Guest macines or other Windows machines on your LAN, make sure you go into regedit and search for all entries of LMANNOUNCE and change the values from 0 to 1 which will make that macine show up on the NET VIEW command or on the network browsers for both Windows and OS/2.
