Hi,

Have there been any updates that I have missed for successfully hibernating of eCS?

Thank you,

Andy,

Does this only happen with the one eCS PC? If so, for testing purposes, switch the ports of the two on the KVM. Does the top left corner mouse follow the same PC, or does it now happen with the swapped PC?

If it does happen to the other PC and not follow the original PC, then there is a slight logic problem on the PS/2 mouse port on the KVM switch that the IBM mouse driver seems to be able to recover from.

This is all interesting, and maybe the communicate / hold state / communicate of the KVM switching for that port is not keeping the hold state for the PS/2 mouse port. Is this KVM powered by the keyboard / mouse ports or does it have an external power supply connected. Reflecting back on issues that I had in the past, I had to use the external power supply to avoid problems. This possibly might have been because the power supplied by one or another PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports was not sufficient to keep the KVM logic states stable.

More food for thought!!! :-)

Hello,

I had the same problem in the past with a simple D-Link KVM switches that had the PS/2 interface for mouse, keyboard and video. I found that when switching between and OS/2 based PC and Windows and back to OS/2 the mouse would appear to be frozen on the OS/2 side. If you plugged in a supported USB mouse the OS/2 system would have mouse functionality again. I deduced, but could not confirm, that the problem was in the baud rate that was re-negotiated when switched to the Windows side. The OS/2 mouse driver was a fixed baud and did not recover when the OS/2 side was switched to.

In closing I thought that if I new what the baud rate was normally used in Windows PS/2 mouse based systems. That maybe I could set the OS/2 driver parameters to use the same baud rate the Windows system used.

I succumbed to using a separate USB mouse and did not pursue it further. I only use a KVM rarely for OS/2 as for my OS/2 & eCS systems are VNC connected or are with a VM system.

Hope this might help!

Thank you Robert and Herwig for your responses. I have been very shy about using SAMBA server. I had problems way back when with original configuration scripts. I have a different directory tree structure that I always had adhered to that may have been some of my difficulty. I also had problems with the daemons staying up and operational. I had to implement MS based servers and not eCS.

I know that SAMBA is well recognized today in the computing world. I had followed religously the SAMBA/Microsoft development forums and watched the Microsoft participation. I need an eCS alternative to small Microsoft based file sharing servers. Many of my small business clients have vertically integrated application suites that use file / record locking with ISAM & dBase database technologies and others. I am not talking about an occasional record lookup. I am talking about steady record lookup and record locking by up to 12 connected computers continuously.

I want to use our implementation of SAMBA. Can I get some real world implementation scenarios that work and work well? is there a recommended stress test toolset that we can certify a SAMBA installation with?

Thank you,

I would like to hire out a small job in REXX script development.

I need a script that can crawl through a directory tree and search with a specific set of file masks and then launch an external script as a separate task to complete another task. Then return to the calling script and continue the crawl to the end of the tree repeating the search and external script launching. I would like to also have a log created in the base directory that contained the found file masks and the resulting return code after launching the external script.

Please respond initially here to this post if you are interested in this development project. Additional project spec and job cost can be discussed via email.

Thank you for your time and consideration with my request!

Hello Everyone,

I am looking to add an XMPP server / daemon to my eCS server. I want to serve up access to a private Jabber service for my clients for technical support communications.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Todd

Hello,

Thanks everyone! I needed the OS2AHCI install files too. I found them, at last, on the EDG Beta site.  I looked there before and did not see them. I will be happily testing later today with eCS v2.1...

Thanks again,

Hardware / eCS v2.1 and OS2AHCI.ADD where?
2012.02.24, 04:51:40
Hello All,

I am working on a new platform to be used in my release of a small business server. I understand that in AHCI mode the disc data transfers are much higher than in SATA compatibility mode.

I tried the install of eCS v2.1 with the BIOS setting for AHCI enabled and the AHCI enabled in the custom setup on the eCS installer. The installation of eCS was successful at first, that is what I thought. I found that the OS2AHCI.ADD file was never copied to the boot drive in the C:\OS2\BOOT folder. Actually, I found some AHCI related files within the ECS tree (I am not near that computer and can't remember the specific folder...).

I booted the eCS install CD and found the OS2AHCI.ADD in the root of Z: and copied it to C:\OS2\BOOT. Rebooted and then the system halted looking for an updated DOSCALLS.DLL, I rebooted to the eCS install CD and copied the Z:\DOSCALLS.DLL to the C:\OS2\DLL folder. Rebooted to the installed eCS partition to find another set if issues that I can not remember at this point.

So, what is my path forward to get AHCI functional? Second, is the AHCI speed enough to warrant all this work (I know that I have not spent much time on this yet so I can not complain, really. :-) )?

TIA,
-Todd

P.S. - Another thought. I read in the forums here that there was once a possible issue with AHCI and larger boot drives. I am using a WD 1TB 3½" drive that does not have the 4096 bit sectors. My boot partition is 20GB and no other partitions on the disk yet...

Hi Greggory,

I did not know that... I will check that out. But I think that would make it FTPS. Meaning FTP with SSL tunnel... I will check it out though.

Thank you,

Hello All,

I am looking for a SFTP server for eCS. Do we have a commercial or near commercial grade SFTP server for eCS?

Hello All,

I have an eCS test PC that I have used for simple testing with SAMBA over the last several years. I am now ready to try the current releases of SERVER and CLIENT. I would like to have a completely clean slate before I start. What is my path forward for ensuring that I have a totally clean eCS PC before I try SAMBA again?

TIA,
Todd

Thank you everyone. For now I am tethering a PS/2 keyboard to get my testing for this remote server solution moving on other directions. I know the this can be solved, but I need to make progress in other areas.

I have another identical setup that can be tested in the shop at a later time.

Thanks again,

Hi Joachim,

Yes, randomly w/ USB keyboard and mouse. But when I try headless, as in no keyboard, nor mouse, nor video connection the WPS almost never comes up past the mouse in middle of blue screen.

I think I found a work around. I found that with eCenter.exe not in the regular Startup folder and started manually several seconds after the rest of the other Startup folder items completed and WPS settled; that eCenter started properly and the system was stable. Although limited, less than 100 iterations, I have not had a single failure with the headless configuration. I am pinging the system IP address and then using PMVNC / VNC Viewer to connect to the system. PMVNC of course is in the Startup folder.

So, I need to setup a delayed startup for eCenter or just manually start eCenter for now.

Thanks,
-Todd

Hi Ian,

Thank you for the response. I do have another server setup that works day in and day out using PMVNC just the way you mentioned. I have this new mainboard that I want to use and it works great with the traditional kb / ms / monitor connected. PMVNC works well on this computer too.

The WPS desktop just does not come up and settle like it should if the kb / ms / monitor were connected... Has me baffled bad!

Thanks,
-Todd
