Yup. That's very true.
Since it is a 32 bit OS, there is a hard limit.

But you always want to see for yourself, what would happen under those conditions..

As a matter of fact, due to the split memory layer of OS/2, making use of more than 2G is also quite a challenge as well, so this is just a "Hmmm, let me see what would happen to my monitor if I pull this plug" kind of experiment..

Yes, the monitor turns off..

Pretty straight forward.
On my linux box, i needed to make below adjustments
Enable IO APIC, and didn't touch any others. (My installation has NAT as default network for VM's)

After installation, I did a few tests with large memory, and no matter how much I assign, it will only use 3.5G (or 3.2 ~ 3.7 depending on what's enabled/ disabled/ mobo and stuff)

Well, 2G was considered big in the days..;)

And it runs really smooth on a VM, now I need to think if I'd like to install over a regular laptop or a desktop.hmmmmm

I knida remember runningmy site over a dual PIII400 in the "days" without sweating too much...with LVM spanned disk (cause we were poor, we had to attach a disk at a time ;) )

It's good to hear 2.0GA is only a few step away.

I am sure it will not be replacing my company's XEN and hundreds of VM's, but I am, at least going to add a box to work as a local gateway or last resort server for sure. ;)

yeah..when I receive 2.0, i think i would give it another try. My current subscription is expired with a promise with 2.0 delivery only...:)

BTW, after several more attempts and comparison among other virtualization tools, only i was able to reliably get it working was ironically under Virtual PC 2007.

Sun's Virtual Box would boot, but stall under the splash screen even when using preset eComstation settings..

XEN would refuse to load the initial CD booter.

so there it is. Hope 2.0 would fix all those.

Might thought I'd share my experience.

In my office, I run many XEN related stuff for our production/ development environment.
That includes many Fedora stuffs.

A few days ago, I successfully installed Windows 2003 under XEN, and thought if Windows 2003 can run, why not eCS?

As the XEN servers were running FC7 under intel XEON's which already have virtualization support.

Thus, got my eCS1.2 CD, and tried to get it going.

unfortunately, the installation halts at the first upper left blob.

This was done using FC7-XEN, under latest update level at 2008 Jul

Thanks
