Internet / Working IM client
2011.06.12, 20:34:13
Hi, everyone-

I've set up eCS 2 and it works nicely.  The only part I'm having problems with is finding a good working IM client.  I'm using SIM right now which works with ICQ and AIM, but not Yahoo.  I tried Dr. Message, which will work with AIM but not ICQ.  Is there a current and hopefully supported native IM client that will work with ICQ, AIM and Yahoo?

I know this is a late reply, but there is an easy way to fix the LAN password problem.  I've forgotten my password a few times and have done this a lot:

1. Reboot and when the "OS/2" message appears, press Alt-F1.
2. Drop to the command prompt (use original CONFIG.SYS).
3. Replace C:\IBMLAN\ACCOUNTS\NET.ACC with C:\IBMLAN\INSTALL\NET.ACC.
4. Reboot.
5. After Peer has been started, log on using USERID/PASSWORD and you'll have access to Peer again as administrator.

Again, a late reply, but this is good for the LAN stuff.  Never used the screensaver but can't help there.

Networking / Re: eCS 2.0 x Win7 Networking

No, you don't need Samba Server.  I have OS/2 Warp 4.52 and Windows 7 Enterprise "talking" just fine to each other.  The problem is that Windows 7 uses a non-standard algorithm to send out the user account password to OS/2 and older versions of Windows (XP and earlier).

The simple solution is to create a user account on both machines that doesn't use a password.  Then SMB will work just fine.

I've never understood the quick answer of "Samba!" when it's not needed.  I've gotten OS/2 and eCS to talk to every version of Windows made without ever once using Samba.  Maybe I just have the magic touch, I don't know...

Marketplace / Re: SIO.SYS

I am running a BBS under OS/2 Warp 4.52 (Telegard/2).  I have been running an OS/2-based BBS since around 1996.  If you are not running SIO/VMODEM, you will not be able to run DOS BBS doors as OS/2 will only allow one application to use a com port at a time.  SIO gets around this using the '-' parameter.

There is no way to register SIO/VMODEM, so unless you crack it yourself, you're SOL.  SIO is abandonware, even though there's been talk about open sourcing it, but it seems that something always comes up about open sourcing SIO/VMODEM, so I'll believe it when I see it.

Hi, everyone.

I'm running Warp 4.52 (pretty much stock) on an old AMD Duron 800-powered machine.  I recently installed my Sony DVD-RW drive in it for backup as I already have a DAT drive in that machine but wanted an additional solution.  I installed DVD Toys and all of the associated drivers and software.  That program works wonderfully, but I'd forgotten that OS/2 can't read DVDs directly.  What do I need to install to get the OS to see the DVDs?  Note that the drive works fine for CDs but won't see DVDs.

Thanks,
Sean
